Seeing as online shopping
platforms have become increasingly prominent in people’s daily lives during the
pandemic, it made sound promotional sense that TV networks would now carry live
broadcasts of these apps whenever they have sales on their markets.
Singapore-based Shopee for instance has a solid partnership via its Philippine
offices to variety show programming on GMA7, particularly with Willie Revillame’s
variety game show “Wowowin.” Thus, Willie played host to Shopee Philippines’ “8.8
Mega Flash Sale TV Special" this past Sunday, with a surprise co-host in one-time
“Queen of All Media,” Kris Aquino. The experience was great enough for her that
Kris commended Revillame on social media the following day.
GMA News has it that Kris Aquino had some praiseworthy things to
say about Willie Revillame after they jointly hosted the Shopee 8.8 Mega Flash
Sale TV Special on August 8, as aired on the Kapuso network. On her official
Instagram page this past Monday August 9, Aquino shared several photos of her
and Willie on hosting mode at the Shopee 8.8 stage, along with a heartfelt
message of gratitude for the “Wowowin” host, praising his attentiveness to all
aspects of the production, and for the kindness he had shown her and her two children.
“In all sincerity, straight from
my heart thank you Willie—for your generosity and for really taking care of me,”
wrote Kris in her IG post caption. “It was just rehearsals last night – you really
focused on lights, music, camera angles, audio and even graphics.” And because
Revillame apparently had been very accommodating with her sons Josh and Bimby,
all three of them could say of the veteran TV host, “Ikaw na nga,” in reference
to one of Willie’s trademark songs sung during his shows.
The Shopee 8.8 Mega Flash Sale TV
Special featured some notable co-host dynamics between Willie Revillame and
Kris Aquino. Notably as the program wound down, while Willie was speaking to
the audience, Kris took a handkerchief and began wiping at the perspiration on her
co-host’s face. This special was the first game show (one-off as it is) hosting
gig by the Queen of All Media, who once graced multiple game shows at ABS-CBN,
after about five years on break from TV work. Her planned comeback as a show host
on TV5 last year was cancelled. When Aquino might regularly pop up in the small
screen again is now anyone’s guess.
