A line from “The Godfather Part
III” goes, “Just when I thought I was out, they pull be back in.” That might
apply to people who want to leave behind a line of work they have been part of
for much of their life, only for the work environment to draw them back.
Sometimes however, that person simply chooses to return for more of their own
will. There has been word since October 2020 from the Philippines’ Mega-Star
Sharon Cuneta that she was contemplating retirement from showbiz. But she
apparently has changed her mind, if word of a Kapamilya teleserye from her Instagram
is true.
Inquirer.net would have it that Sharon Cuneta, far from retiring,
might still be up for another TV production, this one with the Kapamilya
network. This past Tuesday, July 6, she shared news from an ABS-CBN fan page on
Instagram, which mentions a teleserye being co-developed by the Kapamilya
network and Viva Entertainment. She did not say anything else about this
tidbit, but the fact that she actually shared it on her own official IG page
seems to lend it veracity. Interestingly, this will be her first regular Kapamilya
drama series if it does pan out.
While Sharon has been solid with
ABS-CBN, her fare has been either musical variety show in decades past, or programs
and reality hosting in more recent years. She has never done a Kapamilya drama.
Her only lead role in a scripted TV series was in the 2013-2014 drama “Madam
Chairman,” and that was for TV5. If this ABS-CBN/Viva teleserye co-production is
the real deal, then Cuneta can finally do the drama for Kapamilya TV, never
mind that the original TV network is down and their programs are only viewable on
cable and iWantTFC, as well as simulcast deals with TV5.
Outside of this possible TV
drama, Sharon Cuneta has also been in the spotlight for her lead role opposite
Marco Gumabao in “Revirginized,” an upcoming comedy-drama movie directed by
Darryl Yap. Produced under Viva Films and VinCentiments, the film will premiere
on their over-the-top streaming service Vivamax this August 6.
