Looking at Pinoy showbiz power
couple Ryan Agoncillo and Judy Ann Santos, particularly when they share social
media tidbits of their family life, one can only feel impressed at how they
once acted as one of the most troubled cinematic couples (comedy-wise) in a
2006 Star Cinema film. “Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo” from director Jose Javier Reyes
chronicled the side-splitting adventures of a couple trying to survive parents
sabotaging their wedding, and the allure of another woman when pregnancy mood
swings hit. It sequel “Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo” the following year only seemed
to up the stakes. But now, some 15 years after the original’s premiere, plans
for a third are percolating.
According to Inquirer.net, Ryan Agoncillo and Judy Ann Santos are all up for
reprising their roles as Jed and Angie Valeriano in a third installment to the
matrimonial/family romantic comedy “Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo” (“KKK” for short) to
form a trilogy with the follow-up “Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo” (SSS). The idea for
making another sequel came in the wake of the streaming re-release of “KKK”
restored and re-mastered for KTX.ph, ABS-CBN’s digital streaming platform. This
and other films directed by Jose Javier Reyes are undergoing restoration via
the Sagip Pelikula Film Festival.
Agoncillo says that he was asked
during a virtual by Leo Katigbak, head of the ABS-CBN Film Restoration and
Archive, if he and Santos were up for a complete trilogy. The actor noted that
he was surprised at how long the first film had premiered a decade and a half
ago, and he was curious as to imagine what live for Jed and Angie have been in
the same period of time. “Their journey, if you ask me, is now something that
we also go through in our marriage,” remarks Ryan on this. “We could relate to
them, although our experiences aren’t exactly the same.”
His wife agrees in her interest. “I
imagine the story to still have a lot of funny, as well as dramatic moments,”
adds Juday. “As our captain, it will really depend on which direction Direk
Joey [Reyes] will choose to steer the ship.” The filmmaker himself reveals that
a part 3 was always in his mind, to the point that he even has a working title.
However the onset of the pandemic prevented further development. Jose Javier
Reyes is thus leaving things to Star Cinema if or when they might begin
brainstorming prior to production.
Star Cinema’s “Kasal, Kasali,
Kasalo” was an entry to the 2006 Metro Manila Film Festival, where it won nine
awards and grossed about P187 million at the Philippine box office.
