MISS UNIVERSE PHILIPPINES Introduces CONTESTANTS for 2021 Pageant, Including “ASIA’S NEXT TOP MODEL” WINNER; “PBB” Runner-Up

October 25, 2020 was a new beginning in Philippine beauty pageants. For the first time the country’s representation to Miss Universe, long decided by winners in Binibining Pilipinas, would be determined in its own standalone competition run by its own organization. The inaugural Miss Universe Philippines pageant saw Gazini Ganados, the last Bb. Pilipinas Universe, crown Iloilo City’s Rabiya Mateo as the first Ms. Universe Philippines. The pageant itself was seen as a success, which means the edition set for this year musts step up to wow viewers and establish the competition as a real contender. But who will be expected to join the tilt?

The answer is of course the expected crossover competitors from previous beauty pageants but also an actress and a reality show winner, just to start. This was revealed by the Philippine Star which notes that the Miss Universe Philippines Organization has just posted the full list of contestants for the 2021 contest on their official Facebook page. While it is not much of a surprise to see the likes of Leren Bautista, already Binibining Pilipinas Globe 2019, try her luck with MUP, who actually expected Kisses Delavin to compete, after already making a splash on TV as a Kapamilya talent?

Well, as fans who know of Delavin since she joined “Pinoy Big Brother Lucky 7” in 2016, she has been a pageant regular since her teens, from local competitions like Miss Masbate, to Miss Teen Earth. Kisses even remarked back in 2018 that she would try for national pageants after finishing her studies. It looks like that time has already come. Meanwhile, there is also Maureen Wroblewitz to consider. In 2017 she joined “Asia’s Next Top Model” on Star World and became the first Filipina to win the competition. She then became a Star Magic talent herself, styled Maureen Wrob.

In a cheeky shout-out, the reveals for Kisses Delavin and Maureen Wrob used the one-eyed visual utilized in the shocking preview of Bea Alonzo transferring from ABS-CBN to GMA7. This is ironic since, even though the Kapuso network broadcast the first Miss Universe Philippines pageant, this second one is with the Kapamilya, though since their TV network is still inactive, it will be made available on their streaming platform KTX.ph when it is held September 25. Kisses, Maureen and Leren Bautista will join 97 other hopefuls across the country to view for the Filipina crown to be awarded to them by their predecessor, Rabiya Mateo.
