Getting one’s face and name up in
bright lights has long been one hallmark of a celebrity being as famous and
popular as their fans might say he is. And some locations are the prime real
estate, as it were, for having billboards of oneself; for example, the
world-famous Times Square in New York City. Even Filipino celebrities have
managed to get their images there for at least one evening of glory, from
singers like Reese Lansangan of indie duo Reese and Vica, Bb. Pilipinas
International 2017 Mariel De Leon, Kapamilya star James Reid, more recently
Kapuso singing-songwriting diva and actress: Julie Anne San Jose.
The Manila Bulletin reports that Julie Ann San Jose just scored
herself a billboard appearance in Times Square, NYC this week. The GMA7
singer-actress was chosen to give face to “Equal,” a playlist campaign by Sweden-based
audio streaming platform Spotify that espouses women empowerment. The digital
billboard, depicting Julie Anne’s face, the Spotify logo and the Equal campaign
name, was realized in cooperation between the streaming service and San Jose’s
recording label, Universal Records Philippines. On social media, the label was
just as happy about Julie Anne’s Times Square debut as the Kapuso star herself.
“We made it to Times Square, New
York! Just SURREAL,” wrote Julie Anne on her Instagram page. “Big thank you
@spotify. This is a dream come true!” She then went on to thank her fans for
their support of her latest single “Free,” of which she included a link to the
YouTube video. Said song is also part of the Spotify Equal playlist, which she
encouraged her followers to check out for its content of musical selections
from many talented women all around the world. Samples of featured artists in
the playlist include Ariana Grande, Doja Cat, and David Guetta.
Aside from her songs, Julie Anne
San Jose has also had a full acting plate on GMA7. Her rom-com series “Heartful
Café,” where she costarred with Ace Licauco, concluded only last month after
premiering this past April. She is also working on a streaming series, “STILL,”
viewable on VIU Philippines.
