SAMSUNG Unveils GALAXY A52 and 5G Variant Along with GALAXY A72

When it comes to smartphones, Samsung has got all needs covered with its sprawling Galaxy line. If the best of the best Galaxy devices, the Galaxy S phones and the Galaxy Note “phablets,” are too steep for one’s pockets, then there are the Galaxy A and M sub-series to consider, comprising Samsung’s mid-range and low-range introductory devices respectively. The South Korean electronics giant has been giving the Galaxy A’s much love as the S’s, as seen in their recent “Unpacked” event. Three new Galaxy A models were introduced to the world that day, ready to fulfill everyone’s mid-range smartphone needs.

The Verge tells us that the Samsung “Awesome Unpacked” virtual event shown this past Wednesday, March 17, unveiled the new Galaxy A52, with a basic and a 5G-enabled variant, as well as the A72. As can be told by the letter-number designations, the A52s are the successors to the Galaxy A51 first released (in its original non-5G specs) in 2019, while the Galaxy A72 is for the A71 that came out January 2020, before the blow-up of the COVID-19 pandemic. Samsung’s dedication to keeping the A subseries midrange is reflected in how the A52 has both a basic and 5G version, according to users’ preference.

Universal upgrades on the three Galaxy A phones are the better IP67 water and dust resistance plus faster-refreshing high-brightness displays, 64-megapixel main cameras that have optical image stabilization features, octa-core processors, and the latest Android 11 MOS with Samsung One UI 3.0. Internal memory options are between 128 and 256GB for all three, and RAM capabilities are region-dependent. What is more, these Galaxy A’s will still ship with chargers, unlike the latest releases on the Galaxy S line. That is the power of midrange pricing.

On to divergent features, the lithium batteries are 4500 mAh for the A52s and 5000 mAh for the A72. While the former will have 6.5-inch AMOLED screens, the basic A52 refresh is at 90Hz while the 5G variant goes to 120Hz. Their rear camera arrays also include a 5-megapixel depth sensor. Meanwhile, the A72 cameras will also have an 8-megapixel telephoto lens and a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED 90Hz screen. It is only available for LTE, and Samsung has not indicated if a 5G A72 variant is coming any time soon.

So far, Samsung has only announced European pricing for the Galaxy A52/A52-5G and A72. But with current conversion the possible US prices would be: A52 at €349/$415, A52 5G at €429/$510, and A72 at €449/$534.
