If you had not been keeping track, CBS All Access was officially revamped into the streaming service Paramount+ last Thursday, March 4. For $9.99 a month, subscribers can view not just the original line of original programming from the old CBS All Access platform, but also additional new content made available from the 2019 merger of CBS and Viacom, the latter of which has Paramount Pictures which now gives the streaming service its new name. While originally headlining stuff like “Star Trek” and the “Kamp Koral” spinoff/prequel for “Spongebob Squarepants,” over the weekend, Paramount+ subscribers have been raving more about animated cartoons and series they have watched from their childhoods.

As Comic Book Resources tells us, social media chatter on the recent launching of the Paramount+ streaming service tended to put more emphasis on the older archived programs it now carries rather than the new stuff. On Twitter in particular, the fans have been over the moon that certain series, both live-action and animated, that they remember watching on Nickelodeon or YTV as children or teens are back for re-watching. Some of the titles mentioned are deep cuts from what was hit TV viewing for younger audiences in decades past.

Check out the Paramount+ entries in the tweets above: “As Told by Ginger,” “Mighty B!” and “Gullah Gullah Island” were familiar sights on the Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. channels long ago. And if fans of Archie Comics thought the teen-humor franchise only got quirky following the works by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and the “Riverdale” series on The CW, then they missed out on the 1999-2000 animated series “Archie’s Weird Mysteries.” “Ren & Stimpy,” “Ahh! Real Monsters,” “Catdog”…the list just goes on. And do you remember if “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” like this Twitter poster below? And we are talking the classic Nick/YTV series, not the 2019 9-episode miniseries revival.

With those offerings above and more, Paramount+ may have just set itself up to corner the young-audience streaming programming for subscribers outside of Disney+. Sure there are new kids’ content, especially originals, being developed for this platform. But the classics are doing great to get more people hooked. So too is the coming ad-supported subscription tier at a more affordable $4.99 a month that will arrive in June. Let us not forget that Roku devices on OS version 9.4 and up will also have Paramount+ available. All in all, theirs was a successful service re-launch.
