DISNEY+’s “FALCON AND WINTER SOLDIER” Cast Member Talks TRANSITION to Series after Weirdness of “WANDAVISION”

 

One thing about the MCU series being streamed on Disney+ is that they are following the pattern established by earlier Marvel Television collaborations with Netflix that ran from 2015 to 2019. A series runs solo all the way through, then the next show starts with picking up plot points from its predecessor. Even the MCU films did not really get into that until towards the end of Phase 1. The inaugural Disney+ MCU series, “WandaVision,” has been one for some quirky, sometimes “meta,” and generally off-putting plots involving reality-warping power. But somehow it is supposed to flow right onto the next show for streaming, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.”

E! Online has it that a cast member of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” has an idea on how the cross-generational and sheer psychedelic events of “WandaVision” will set up the atmosphere for when their series will start. Actress Emily VanCamp, who portrays former SHIELD Agent Sharon Carter (since 2014’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”), describes the upcoming show as carrying over just enough mystery from “WandaVision” to be a dynamic transition, but will primarily offer “good old-fashioned action” similar to what audiences would have seen in the “Captain America” movies starring Chris Evans.

Shifting back to conventional action set pieces would be just the ticket for MCU fans that, while enjoying the trippy approach of “WandaVision” starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, are now starved of the great combat sequences that are a hallmark of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They are sure to get it too, with “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” stars Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan portraying characters that are among the most “normal human” heroes of the movie franchise. Mechanical wing-suit and vibranium cyborg arm aside, the titular Falcon and Winter Soldier fight conventionally against fellow conventional human threats.

Initial plot blurbs and trailers for the series will see two sidekicks of Captain America, one from World War II surviving to the modern day and another a denizen of contemporary times, as they join forces to take on Helmut Zemo (Daniel Bruhl), a violent terrorist on a campaign to destroy costumed superheroes and their supporters. Also present are the anarchist society of Flag-Smashers, whose goals align with Zemo’s endgame. Emily VanCamp’s Sharon Carter aids the two leads against not only Zemo, but a government-mandated replacement to Captain America who is taking the hero’s image towards a more militarized direction.

After “WandaVision” wraps up its nine-episode run on March, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” will arrive with its six episodes on the 19^th of that month. They are part of the MCU’s Phase 4, which will have as it first film installment “Black Widow” starring Scarlett Johansson, premiering May.
