GREG SLAUGHTER Signs Up for Top International BASKETBALL Agency BEOBASKET

Shortly before COVID-19 became the viral bogeyman it has been for the past few months of 2020, it was the end of a personal era for Filipino-American basketball powerhouse Greg Slaughter, after his PBA contract to the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel expired in February. After announcing that he was taking time off from the league, Slaughter went silent, along with most Filipinos when the community quarantines began and Philippine pro basketball ground to a halt. There has been speculation on what he would do during his time away from PBA. This Friday, he revealed what.

The Philippine Star reports that Greg Slaughter has signed on as a talent for BeoBasket, an international basketball professional management agency. “GregZilla” himself announced his new affiliation on Instagram today, July 10. The post notes his having taken a contract with BeoBasket head Misko Raznatovic, and that he has made history by becoming the first Filipino basketball talent to sign on with that agency. Slaughter does reassure fans that despite his new international representation he will not be leaving Philippine basketball in the lurch, especially the national team for the coming 2023 FIBA World Cup. Weeks before word of his new BeoBasket affiliation came out GregZilla was reportedly spotted at an NBA G League tryout.
BeoBasket was first established some 25 years ago, in 1995. Since then it has served as a top agency for many high-tier basketball players both amateur and pro around the world. The American NBA EuroLeague and even Asian conferences have BeoBasket-represented talents. Accoding to Slaughter, many of the individual 2019 FIBA World Cup participants from various nations were already under BeoBasket. “I look forward to adding to that in 2023!” Greg remarks excitedly on Instagram.

Greg Slaughter first came into Philippine basketball prominence at the UAAP as part of the Ateneo de Manila squad from 2011 to 2012. Come 2013 he joined the PBA draft and was the #1 pick by the Barangay Ginebra team, with which he would play from that year until 2020. Other notable BeoBasket global talents include Nikola Jokic of the NBA’s Denver Nuggets, who also represents in the men’s national team of his native Serbia.
