XIAOMI Launching MI 10 Smartphone in CHINA THURSDAY and WORLDWIDE at MWC Despite NCOV Scare

At around this part of the year, the biggest names in the global mobile communication industry would take time to gather in Spain for a thought-leadership conference on their collective businesses’ next step forward into the future. The fact that it is also an exhibition only helps to encourage attendance. One of these major mobile companies looking to make the trip to Barcelona for the Mobile World Congress is Chinese gadget manufacturer Xiaomi, seeing as they have a new smartphone to debut at this time. While this week will see the phone launch in their native China, a later MWC appearance could serve to introduce it to the world market.
The Verge reports that Xiaomi is all set to release their Mi 10 smartphones this coming Thursday, February 13, following the usual trend of other international electronics brands in offering a basic model and a beefier variant with a “Pro” suffix. Xiaomi made their local launch announcement on Chinese social media platform Weibo, but that is not all. They are also gathering steam to introduce the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro overseas, announcing on Twitter that it will happen in Spain two weeks from now, before Mobile World Congress.

One thing that should be noted however is that the 2020 MWC does not seem to be shaping up to be as crowded and well-attended as the ones in previous years. The reason is obvious enough in other news: the novel coronavirus outbreak. Spain has been one of the unfortunate countries that have confirmed cases of nCoV (two so far) in their borders, due to mass travel from China before the virus was taken seriously and emergency measures were emplaced. Several major guests like Sony and Amazon have already cancelled their World Mobile Congress plans, but Xiaomi has reiterated that they will attend the event.
Notable features of the Xiaomi Mi 10/Pro include an up-to-date Snapdragon 865 processor, 66-watt fast-charge support, and five camera lenses (four at back, one selfie) among others. The Chinese smartphone maker will go ahead with its global launch for the Mi 10 on February 23, with the MWC proper happening from the 24th to 27th.
