SOCIAL MEDIA Makes SUGGESTIONS on MARCELITO’s FINAL SONG for “AGT: CHAMPIONS”

It is still some time yet before the second season of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” will air its finals night on NBC. Therefore for the time being Marcelito Pomoy, grand champion of “Pilipinas Got Talent” season 2 on ABS-CBN has returned home to the Philippines to rest and prepare following his triumphant semi-finals performance that secured him his ticket to the finale round of the competition. In his two appearances on this season of “AGT: The Champions” Marcelito has coasted forward thanks to a strong fan vote. Now he must ready the song he must sing in the hopes of becoming grand champion anew. Fans have ideas on that.

ABS-CBN News has it that social media in the Philippines and elsewhere has been abuzz with speculation on just what song “Got Talent” veteran Marcelito Pomoy will take with him to the final round of NBC’s “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” special edition, which has brought contestants of similar contests around the world. This discussion has become rather important following the remarks of judge Simon Cowell after Pomoy’s semi-finals rendition of Andrea Bocelli’s “Time to Say Goodbye Now.” Cowell says that two songs sung with Marcelito’s signature dual-voice are enough to dull its novelty, and he must do something new.

Pomoy’s uncanny vocal ability to sing male and female tones, alternating from tenor to falsetto that sounds like a convincing soprano, has carried him all the way to the grand championship in “Pilipinas Got Talent” back in 2011. The notion that repeated performances before an American and international audience will desensitize them to this surprise skill has become a matter of concern where what Marcelito should sing for his finale piece would be. Some netizens are of the opinion that he should stay the course.

To these stalwarts, they would suggest that Marcelito Pomoy carry on with his one-man duets to the end, proposing songs such as Disney themes like “Beauty and the Beast” or “A Whole New World.” The other side believes Pomoy must consider Simon Cowell’s advice, though their suggestions differ. One says Marcelito must sing a whole song in female falsetto, even nominating Sarah Geronimo’s “Tala” as a joke. Others believe he must intensify from duets to ensemble songs, like Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” or even “We Are the World.” All these poses from serious to hilarious have been spotted in the official ABS-CBN News Facebook page post, asking what the “AGT: The Champions” finalist must sing last.

Of course that all does not take into consideration what Marcelito remarked on during his semi-finals preparation, that the show’s production selects the song for him. Perhaps that will remain the same for the finals. More will likely be revealed when “AGT: The Champions” season 2 rolls into its finale on NBC. But next week is apparently still part semi-finals.
