While it was not so key in the
very first film of the franchise, the film series from EON Productions
featuring Ian Fleming’s suave British spy “James Bond” quickly established a
production element as vital as Agent 007 having gadgets and a new love interest
per film: the theme song. Almost invariably sharing a title with the respective
films they were composed for, they were what helped make James Bond a familiar
sound as well as visual for audiences over the decades. The latest installment,
“No Time to Die,” is no exception. And now a sampling of its theme sung by
Billie Eilish is available.
Entertainment Weekly tells us that the theme song for “No Time to
Die” has been uploaded online for listening ahead of the release of the 25th
“James Bond” movie and the last to feature Daniel Craig in the title role. The
song itself was released this past Thursday, February 13, and features amazing
vocals from Billie Eilish, one of the biggest new singing sensations in the
world today, as confirmed by her stunning victories in the 62nd Annual
Grammy Awards last January 26 where she won the four major categories of Best New
Artist as well as Best Record, Song and Album of the Year.
The theme song of the movie is a
ballad running over four minutes long. It features a haunting keyboard melody
throughout, in a perfect blend with Eilish’s ominous lyrics, seemingly calling
back to key events across the Craig-era Bond films that began with “Casino
Royale” in 2006. In similar fashion to past Bong songs, the intensity of the
new song rises as it goes along to a climactic moment then falls into a quiet
close. All in all, it sounds like an appropriate swan song for the departure of
another Bond actor from the role.
“No Time to Die” stars Daniel
Craig as ex-Agent James Bond, who goes out of retirement as a personal favor to
his CIA friend Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright), that spirals out of control into
yet another global threat spearheaded by mastermind Safin (Rami Malek),
involving Bond’s carryover love interest from “Spectre” (2015), Dr. Madeleine
Swann (Lea Seydoux). The film also stars Ralph Fiennes as M, Naomie Harris as
Eve Moneypenny, ben Whishaw as Q, Christoph Waltz, Ana de Armas and Lashana
Lynch. The film premieres this April. Billie Eilish is also recognized as the
youngest songwriter and performer for a Bond song at age 18.
