From being a technical orphan, on
account of an imprisoned father and a mother who abandoned him, Marcelito Pomoy
would eventually become a viral singing sensation after joining ABS-CBN’s “Pilipinas
Got Talent” season 2, thanks to his falsetto ability enabling him to do solo “duets”
with alternating male tenor and female “soprano” voices. He would once again
showcase this amazing skill before a global audience when he joined the second
season of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” this start of the year. Three
times he sang dual-voiced before the “AGT” audience, and in the Finals night he
placed just short.
ABS-CBN News has it that the season 2 grand winner of “Pilipinas
Got Talent” Marcelito Pomoy came this close to being part of the top three in
the final round of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” season 2 on NBC. His
final performance, revealed last week, was a cover of the “Beauty and the Beast”
theme song from Disney as sung by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson. But ultimately
the advice of judge Simon Cowell may have rung true, as this time it was not
enough to push him forward. Pomoy finished fourth place in a pool of ten
finalists.
But from the look of things, it
might be that “AGT: The Champions” was not out for idol singers this time. Of
the three singers who made it this far, Marcelito was highest-placed among
them. Third place went to violin virtuoso Tyler Butler-Figueroa, while the top
two spots went to physical performers: trapeze artists Duo Transcend in second,
and acrobatic dance group V.Unbeatable being named the Grand Winner(s) this
season. Upon the announcement of the Filipino contestant’s fourth-place finish,
host Terry Crews invited Pomoy’s wife to join him onstage, where she took over
speaking on behalf of her emotional husband.

“He just wanted to say thank you.
Thank you so much to everybody,” says Mrs. Pomoy, transating Marcelito’s reply
to Crews’ question if he had something to say to the audience and fans. “This
is a big opportunity for him,” she adds. “Thank you so much.” While many in the
audience were rather put upon by what they felt was a low tier for Pomoy to end
his “Champions” campaign, the judges were very appreciative. Heidi Klum thanked
Marcelito back for sharing his beautifully captivating voices to the world,
assuring him that he is already a champion for his fans.
