CASTING Confirmed on "SUPERMAN AND LOIS" SONS on THE CW

Readers of DC Comics in recent years would know that one of the most recent characterizations of Superman, the quintessential “traditional” superhero, has been that of “Super-Dad.” Essentially, he and Lois Lane have been the parents to Jonathan Samuel “Jon” Kent, who has inherited his father’s Kryptonian super-powers and has become the latest iteration of “Superboy.” While the backstory leading to this development is long and complex, that has been the dynamic of Superman and his leading lady, one adapted in The CW when the “Arrow-verse” Superman and Lois were blessed with a baby boy, confirmed to be Jon himself.

One of the various “Arrow-verse” follow-up series in development for The CW has been “Superman and Lois,” focusing on that setting’s native Superman/Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin) and Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch) after the reality-altering changes to their lives following the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” 2019 Holiday crossover. One alteration has been the number of children they have: now Jon has a twin brother. And Comic Book Resources confirms that these two boys have been cast to appear on the show. Their names have been provided, and The CW has also shared the characters’ descriptions for fans to envision the boys of Superman and Lois with.

According to the character info released, Jordan Elsass (Hulu’s “Little Fires Everywhere”) will be playing Jonathan Kent, based on the character introduced in the original DC Comics within this decade as Superman/Clark and Lois’ biological son. Jon is described as being modest, kind-hearted and exuding a nice-boy image like his comic counterpart. In contrast, Alexander Garfin (“The Peanuts Movie,” 2015) will play Jon’s brother Jordan as having a temper and being too socially anxious to interact with other people, despite his greater intellect. The CW also insinuates that the two characters are twins and, as made plain by their actors, significantly aged up from the baby seen in the “Crisis.”

“Superman and Lois” starring Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch was announced in development by The CW even before the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover was finished. This included news of two young male characters being cast. Initially it was believed that these would be a childhood-aged Jon Kent and possibly Damian Wayne, son of Bruce Wayne/Batman in the comics who is also the latest Robin. This is complicated by the “Arrow-verse” backstory of Bruce Wayne disappearing from Gotham, leading to his cousin Kate Kane (Ruby Rose) stepping up as “Batwoman” in her own CW series.

The CW is looking to premiere “Superman and Lois,” which has been ordered straight to series, as part of their “Arrow-verse” DC lineup sometime in the 2020-21 television season period.
