CATRIONA GRAY Leads the Latest EASTWOOD CITY WALK OF FAME Honorees

Since 1958 the Hollywood Walk of Fame has served as a collective monument to the American entertainment industry, comprised of decorative star designs made of bronze and terrazzo embedded on the sidewalks of Hollywood Blvd. and Vine Street in Hollywood. The late Master Showman German Moreno was instrumental in the creation of a Filipino counterpart Walk of Fame in 2005, located at Eastwood City in Quezon City. In the two decades it has been around the Eastwood City Walk of Fame has begun to fill up quite nicely with celebrity names as well. The latest batch of inductees had their stars unveiled just this Sunday.

The Manila Bulletin reports that the latest batch of inductees to the Eastwood City Walk of Fame was introduced at the official inducting ceremony held at Eastwood City Megaworld on January 12. This group is composed of nine celebrities from the major branches of media and entertainment and includes a mix of recently-famous names as well as veterans who have been part of the industry for decades. They were all presented with the expected granite blocks decorated with five-pointed stars and emblazoned with their names, ready to be positioned in the sidewalks of Eastwood City.

It feels rather appropriate that Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray head up the January 2020 inductees for the local Walk of Fame, seeing as she did win the major beauty pageant title a fourth time for the country. But she is also in esteemed company with the likes of singer-theatre star Rachelle Ann Go, comedian Jon Koy, social media and TV personality Alex Gonzaga and journalist Jiggy Manicad. More established names include veteran dramatic actor Edu Manzano, longtime comedienne Nanette Inventor, and TV famous anchors Jun Banaag and Kim Atienza.

The honorees were introduced by Federico Moreno, son of the late German Moreno and president of Walk of Fame Philippines, which looks after the monument stars and chooses new inductees roughly every year. “By recognizing these individuals who have been pivotal in keeping the entertainment scene alive, we are also honouring my father’s legacy and his dedication to the industry,” Moreno said in a statement. Under his tenure, the German Moreno Walk of Fame Philippines became organized in its selection criteria, nominating personalities from categories of Movies, Television, News and Public Affairs, Radio, Music and Theater. This was in contrast to his father “Kuya Germs,” who originally handpicked celebrities to be inducted in the Walk.
