While Bernardo Palanca has had a
more versatile career in the Philippine entertainment industry, his younger
brother Miko Palanca concentrated more on acting for film and television,
becoming a character actor of note. Starting off with ABS-CBN since 1997, Miko
would feature in some of the Kapamilya network’s tele-seryes and drama anthologies.
Although he and Bernardo became freelance stars doing work for all major
networks in the country, it was with ABS-CBN that both gave their most
memorable performances. However there will be no more to be seen of Miko
Palanca in the future, following his death just this Monday.
According to ABS-CBN News, actor Miko Palanca passed away on December 9 at the
still formidable age of 41 years old. Word of his death was given through an
official statement issued by his family. Said announcement, given in the name
of his brother Bernard, their siblings and their mother Nita, expressed extreme
sorrow for Miko’s passing. The whole family is grateful for the incredible
outpour of love and support that has been coming in today," read the
statement. "As of now, we would like to respectfully request for privacy
as we go through this very difficult time. Again, we appreciate all the love
and support – thank you so much."
Later that Monday, other
celebrities chimed in their condolences, along with major organizations such as
Star Cinema and the Film Academy of the Philippines. The Academy’s statement,
posted on their Facebook page, gave sympathies to the Palanca family for Miko’s
death. Even his former Star Magic talent manager, Monch Novales, expressed how
much she would miss the actor. Thus far, his surviving relatives have been
quiet on the cause of his death. Palanca’s last notable role on TV was guesting
in the 2019 ABS-CBN noontime tele-serye “Nang Ngumiti ang Langit.”
