Dreamscape Entertainment has
proven itself a cash cow for Philippine TV giant ABS-CBN, particularly in terms
of developing and producing television programming content for the Kapamilya
Network. They have done so not only since its distinct identification in 2010,
but as early back as 1992 when it was still an internal production unit. Many
of Dreamscape’s ideas have become TV rating juggernauts over the years, and
some of their proposals even include collaborations with overseas talent and
agencies. For instance, in October Dreamscape hammered out a tele-serye deal
pairing James Reid with Nancy McDonie of MOMOLAND. But with December starting,
no further information has surfaced.
According to ABS-CBN News, one of the stars for the recently-announced
collaborative primetime soap “Soulmate” is not at liberty to tell the media
just what new developments have come regarding the rather hush-hush production.
With some two months passed since it was announced that James Reid and Nancy
McDonie would be a tandem for this tele-serye, the Kapamilya exclusive actor
kept mum when asked by media about just what was happening with the planned
show. Most recently James answered a reporter’s query during a special event
for Merrell, an outdoor footwear label for which he serves as a local
ambassador.
“I can’t say too much about that
right now. Sorry,” was the clipped reply from Reid when asked if “Soulmate”
with Nancy of MOMOLAND was still on track to be made. He demurred further when
asked to simply say “Yes” or “No,” explaining that he cannot talk about the
production so he cannot say more. It is known that James was also currently
working on a new studio album following the release of his singing debut back
in 2017. All that he could share about it was that he is collaborating with
Filipino artists based in the US and Canada.
Before all information on “Soulmate”
went dark, it was already known that Antoinette Jadaone, a longtime James Reid
collaborator, has been tapped to direct the series just as she had done for the
actor’s two ABS-CBN tele-seryes where he was paired with Nadine Lustre. The
soap will be produced in the K-Drama plot format, comprising only 13 episodes
with a brisk narrative pace, compared to the Filipino soap format where scenes
are decompressed yet also truncated to allow for multiple long commercial
breaks. The projected premiere of “Soulmate” is said to be sometime in January
of next year, though no teaser of preview has come.
