BLACK EYED PEAS Performing at 2019 SEA GAMES CLOSING Ceremony

When the 2019 Southeast Asian Games officially opened back in November 30, the ceremony at the Philippine Arena naturally included a nice long musical extravaganza honoring the OPM genre and promoting it to the regional SEA athletes and spectators. While a solid portion of the medley was a tribute to late legendary rapper Francis M, one portion featured Allan “apl.de.ap” Pineda singing “Bebot,” one of his Tagalog-language songs from the “Monkey Business” album of apl’s hip hop group Black Eyed Peas. While Pineda’s SEA Games opening ceremony participation was highly welcome already, news that he and the BEP are performing for this week’s closing ceremony was even more awesome news.

According to ABS-CBN News, the Black Eyed Peas along with their proud Filipino American member apl.de.ap are set to be among the featured performers slated to rock the house at the New Clark City Athletics Stadium, where the closing ceremony for the 2019 SEA Games will take place this Wednesday evening, December 11. The fact that they will actually get to do so is a testament to the planning of apl and his strong connections with his active fellow Peas will.i.am and Taboo, who have taken time from their respective busy schedules to join him.

While speaking to reporters this Tuesday, December 10, will.i.am encouraged Filipino fans, especially those going to watch the SEA Games closing ceremony, to “keep dancing to it.” By this he means the Black Eyed Peas’ latest song “Ritmo,” which will also feature in Sony-Columbia’s long-awaited sequel to the buddy-cop film series “Bad Boys for Life” starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence and coming early 2020. The group collaborated with Colombian music artist J Balvin for the Afrobeat-Latino Reggaeton styling of “Ritmo,” which entered the Billboard US Hot 100 this week, and is hinted by the group could be performed at New Clark for the closing.

It has been six whole years since any song by the Black Eyed Peas has been charted, following the hiatus the group members entered into as they pursue individual projects. Now however, they are ready to give “good times” to their listeners with “positive festive music,” perfect for the conclusion of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games. "It's music that people love to dance to, work out to — it's the music for everybody and it's the international frequency,” said Taboo, regarding their newly-produced music. “We're proud of all the great content that we have for 2020."

The SEA Games formal closing ceremony takes place at New Clark City Athletics Stadium on the evening of December 11. After their set here, apl and the Peas will continue their ongoing world tour, which has already visited South America and Australia among several nations.
