BEA ALONZO Listed by "VARIETY" in Top ASIAN STARS List

When a local star of entertainment gains enough attention from overseas to eventually land them in either a regional or global ranking of the best in the business, it is definitely a reason to celebrate. There have already been many examples across different fields that Filipino talent is the equal of any in the world. And recently, it is ABS-CBN actress Bea Alonzo who has brought great international honor from both a major film festival and one of the biggest names in American entertainment news. This earned distinction is even more precious due to Alonzo being the sole Filipino representative in that new star ranking.

CNN Philippines reports that Bea Alonzo has just been added to the “Asian Stars: Up Next” celebrity listing compiled by the International Film Festival and Awards – Macau (IFFAM) and Variety, top media magazine from Penske Media Corporation. The Asian Stars list was first publicized last week on Thursday, November 28, with the group of celebrities being featured collectively described as having the “skills to become much bigger in the entertainment industry.” Variety’s feature, specifically the section on Bea, was also shared by the actress herself via screenshots posted on her official Instagram page last week.
The blurb on Alonzo by Variety recalls her British-Filipino roots, her 2002 debut on the Kapamilya network as both TV actress and host on Sunday variety show “ASAP.” It also lists her first cinematic role in “My First Romance in 2003.” Other films mentioned include her award-winners “The Love Affair” (34th Luna Awards) and “A Second Chance” (2016 PMPC Star Awards for Movies). These credentials among others are what Bea is going to need for when she and her fellow Variety-featured Asian entertainment idols go to the IFFAM this month.

The other Asian stars profiled by the “Up Next” list on Variety are Yoona (South Korean K-Pop idol), Lien Binh Phat (Vietnamese actor) Ryota Katayose (Japanese actor), Asmara Abilgail (Indonesian actress), Bhumi Pednekar (Indian actress), and singers Jennis-Oprasert and Praewa Suthamphong from Thailand. They are going to be among the many centers of attraction for the 2019 International Film Festival and Awards in Macau, which starts Thursday, December 5 until 10. Bea Alonzo gets to join previous Filipino celebrities already featured by Variety such as Piolo Pascual and Anne Curtis.
