“PGT” Season 2 Winner MARCELITO POMOY Competing in “AMERICA’S GOT TALENT: THE CHAMPIONS” Season 2

“Pilipinas Got talent,” the ABS-CBN-aired local edition of the international reality talent competition created by Simon Cowell and distributed by Fremantle Media, might have already run six seasons in all, the latest having run from January to April this year. But even winners from past seasons can still have more to show in further competition. That applies to Marcelito Pomoy, winner of “PGT” season 2 in 2011, whose Final performance singing the male-female duet “The Prayer” in both male and convincingly female tones aced his victory. While he had guested on Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show last year, he is next gunning for another “Got Talent” win, this time in America.

ABS-CBN News reports that singer Marcelito Pomoy, champion of the second season of “Pilipinas Got Talent” and gifted singer in falsetto and “doble cara-style” performance, is one of the contestants for the second season of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” on NBC next year. This spinoff of the main “AGT” program brings together selected contestants (mainly winners) from “Got Talent” shows around the world, with the winner being acclaimed as the “World Champion.” Its first season ran from January to February 2019, with a season renewal announced just months later.

Pomoy dropped the “AGT: Champions” season 2 bombshell on his official Instagram page this Wednesday, November 20. “Guys, this is it…this is the opportunity I have been waiting for,” he wrote on the post caption. The “PGT” champion also stressed the increased challenge that he would be facing in the special American reality competition, where he can expect rivals who have also won their respective “Got Talent” editions. He has thus asked for support from fans and Filipinos who remember his moment from 2011, and his “Ellen” appearance, to support him on his biggest battle of talent yet this January.
While Marcelito Pomoy became something of a household name in the Philippines for winning “Pilipinas Got Talent” in 2011 with his amazing cross-gender vocal range, the international community only got wind of him in October 2018, again as a guest on “Ellen.” He reprised his Finals-clinching rendition of “The Prayer” as sung by Josh Groban and Celine Dion, to a stellar reception and standing ovation. He expressed on Instagram his not being entirely confident of his chances on “AGT: Champions” season 2, expressing contentment if he just performed for audition, but will definitely try his hardest to make the finals once again, for the country.

The second season of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” begins January 6, 2020 on NBC. Franchise creator Simon Cowell himself is heading the panel of judges comprised of Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Alesha Dixon.
