NEW ABS-CBN Holiday STATION ID Launched; Some KAPAMILYA Stars Absent

In the grand tradition of the major TV networks in the Philippines, ABS-CBN has already released its Christmas station ID for the year 2019. Viewers got their first look and listen to the ID this past Monday, November 18, at the conclusion of evening newscast “TV Patrol.” The new ID song “Family is Forever” shares the same formula as all Kapamilya seasonal station IDs all year round, with a chorus line that is tailor-made for potentially-infinite repeats. The ID showcased as much of the ABS-CBN talent pool as can fit with all the many Kapamilya fans also featured. But eagle-eyed audiences have noted some absences.

According to ABS-CBN News, there are some notable Kapamilya personages who could not make it for the shooting of the network’s Holiday station ID this year. Viewers who watched the first full run of the video in between “TV Patrol” and “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” last Monday would notice the trend of the ABS-CBN stars, artists and media celebrities being grouped by their respective programs as they interacted with the guest fans at network’s headquarters. When it came to the cast of the recently-concluded action tele-serye “The General’s Daughter,” series lead Angel Locsin was nowhere to be seen alongside Maricel Soriano, Arjo Atayde, and Ryza Cenon.

Curious Kapamilya followers then decided to get in touch with Eric John Salut of Dreamscape Entertainment, the production division that developed “The General’s Daughter” and other major ABS-CBN teleseryes in past years. When asked on his Instagram page why Angel was scarce in the “Family is Forever” station ID, Salut plainly answered that the actress, who portrayed soldier-syndicate mole Rhian Bonifacio/Arabella De Leon had come down with a fever on the day the video was shot. It was not as if Locsin was the only absentee; luminaries like Angelica Panganiban, Anne Curtis, Paolo Avelino and Shaina Magdayao were also no-shows.

“Family is Forever” is unique for the network’s history of Christmas station IDs, due to also celebrating 65 years for ABS-CBN. The song pays a tribute to several of its predecessors from years past, with lines and choruses from said songs being interwoven into the number. The Kapamilya fans that hanged out with the stars for the video were all returnees from the production of previous IDs. They were treated to a photo exhibit outside ABS-CBN’s network headquarters featuring their past interactions with the Kapamilya celebrities, before the same stars came out to join them in singing “Family is Forever.”
