Much can be said about sticking
with a team that you like working with. Singer-actor James Reid held true to
that notion by confirming his affiliation to ABS-CBN this Friday with a new
contract. Said contract is for a new TV series that he will star in on the
Kapamilya network, but the beauty part about it is who Reid will costar with:
some major overseas star power. As an added bonus, Filipino fans already know
this leading lady from South Korea, particularly because she is also a dead
ringer for another ABS-CBN talent. Get ready for a James-Nancy tandem.
As The Philippine Star tells it, James Reid has signed up for a new
tele-serye from ABS-CBN’s hottest TV production arm, Dreamscape Entertainment.
He will be starring alongside Nancy Jowel McDonie; yes, one of the members of
K-Pop girl group MOMOLAND will join Reid for “The Soulmate,” another series
that will ensure Kapamilya dominance in primetime television in the future. The
production is already in good hands thanks to directing duties being given to
Antoinette Jadaone, who has worked with James before in previous shows “On the
Wings of Love” and “Til I Met You,” with his girlfriend Nadine Lustre.
Of course, Reid is savvy enough
to know the fandom will raise eyebrows that he is not doing the tele-serye as a
JaDine project, even if his partner is a MOMOLAND member. He assures followers
that this tandem, and his recent decision to leave the Viva Group to manage
himself independently, have not taken a toll on their onscreen love team and
off-screen relationship. It should be recalled that his departure from Viva had
fueled speculations that he might jump ship to rival network GMA7, but an official
statement from his new management outfit Reid Entertainment notes that he
remains an exclusive talent for ABS-CBN.
The contract for James Reid and
Nancy Jowel McDonie to star in “The Soulmate” was signed Friday, October 4, at
a ceremony in ABS-CBN’s head office that also served as the series’ first story
conference. As an aside, Nancy (who many fans claim to look much like Liza
Soberano) and her fellow MOMOLAND members have also signed their own contract
with the Kapamilya network, wherein ABS-CBN will now share management
responsibilities for the group alongside their home label MLD. Yes, MOMOLAND is half-Kapamilya now.
MOMOLAND will also star in a
travel show wherein they will tour the Philippines to showcase its various
tourist attractions and destinations, possibly geared towards generating more
tourism from South Korea.
