GREEN DAY Coming to MANILA for the FIRST TIME 2020

These days the Philippines is well-established as a significant stopping point for the concert tours of major foreign music acts. And that is not just the regional stars from the rest of Asia (K-Pop comes to mind), but also from the west be they from Europe (Westlife) or the US (Carly Rae Jepsen). And they are not stopping any time soon. Another American act that will be visiting the country is a familiar sound for rock bands, especially those who have been regular MTV viewers in the 1990s and 2000s. Much like the lyrics of their 1995 song, Green Day is coming around to Manila.

According to ABS-CBN News, alternative rock band Green Day will be making its first concert stop in the Philippines in all their years active since the late 1980s. For fans that grew up with MTV, watching videos of their 90s hits such as “When I Come Around,” “Hitchin a Ride,” “Walking Contradiction” and more recent offerings like “American Idiot,” this is big news indeed. They will be performing one night in Manila next year, as a segment of their two-part concert tour for 2020, with Asian cities first and then Europe a few months later.

The full announcement was made in a rather hilarious video uploaded this week. Green Day will be touring worldwide with Fall Out Boy, Weezer and The Interrupters on the Hella Mega Tour sponsored by Harley Davidson, although only Green Day will be doing the above-mentioned concerts in Asian and European cities from March to May. The concert dates also happen to follow up on the 2020 release of what will be Green Day’s latest album, the inappropriately titled “Father of All M[redacted for readers]” to be released by Reprise Records.

While no specific details have been shared yet such as ticket prices and preordering, we now know that the Green Day (only) Hella Mega Tour will stop in Manila for a concert on March 14, 2020 at the Mall of Asia Arena. It is the third portion of the Asian leg which the American rock band will cover, including stops in Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea and two cities in Japan. Fans can most likely expect all iconic Green Day songs in their set, as well as numbers from their 2016 album “Revolution Radio” and, naturally, the upcoming one with the R-rated name.
