When not working on film or
television productions, actress Angelica Panganiban indulges her passion for
music by attending music festivals. This hobby has even taken her abroad, such
as Fuji Rock in Japan and the iconic Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival
in California. Angelica shares this love for music with her close circle of
showbiz friends such as the Prats siblings John and Camille, Sam Milby and
Isabel Oli, and they have decided to share it with the public as well as put
the spotlight anew on Original Filipino Music. To that end, they are organizing
their own music festival happening later this month.
The Manila Bulletin has it that the group of five Kapamilya stars is
going into the concert producing business, with Angelica Panganiban at their
head. Their project is the Hueniverse Music Festival, which they will organize
under the collective name of Bright Bulb Productions. In their own words,
Hueniverse will celebrate the OPM scene in light of what they perceive as its
recent resurgence even in competition with foreign music acts, and they have
already assembled quite the selection of well-established along with
up-and-coming OPM artists to perform this September.
According to Panganiban, their
circle has spent close to a year in preparation for this first Hueniverse Music
Festival, which will be held at the Filinvest City Events Grounds. Her being
head of production was only natural, as it was her stories of her music
festival experiences overseas to Sam Milby, Isabel Oli, John and Camille Prats that
inspired them to do the same right here. "It's great to see our OPM
artists again and again, because they're so hot now,” says Angelica. “There are
more Filipinos who support OPM."
Hueniverse is assembling quite
the lineup of OPM talent for its first outing, with such acts like Sponge Cola,
Claudia Barretto, The Ransom Collective, Mark Oblea, Autotelic, Written in the
Stars, Agsunta, Bita and the Botflies, Almo$t and Chiquerella. Even DJs will
get their time to perform their groovy sets, including Ron Poe, Jennifer Lee, Tom
Taus and DJ Brougeous. As Panganiban puts it, there are still more artists
calling Bright Bulb Productions expressing interest in joining the fun. The
Huenivers Music Festival will rock on at Filinvest City events Grounds this
September 28, beginning from 1 PM to the wee hours of the next day. Public
agencies such as the PDEA and paramedics will be on hand both to provide concertgoer
security and medical aid in case of emergencies.
