There was a time perhaps, when
the first known fact one has about actor Alden Richards is that he was one half
of the iconic love pairing Al-Dub, with fellow TV personality Maine “Yaya Dub”
Mendoza. While the sheer brand recognition power the tandem got from what
started out as a mere impromptu team-up on the GMA7 noontime variety show “Eat!
Bulaga” was a big boon to their careers both Alden and Maine have also managed
to strike out as individuals. Richards particularly just came off from a
blockbuster pairing with Kapamilya star Kathryn Bernardo in “Hello, Love,
Goodbye.” Now the actor just got major award props from South Korea.
As GMA News tells it, Alden Richards just added to his overseas
accolades when he won the Asian Star Prize in the 2019 Seoul International
Drama Awards. The awarding ceremony was held at Kyung Hee University in the
South Korean capital on Wednesday, August 28. As the East Asian country is
increasingly popular for its export of popular entertainment including TV
dramas, in return the SDA awards are the South Korean entertainment industry’s
own kudos to the best in TV drama productions around the world.
With regards to what Alden won in
Seoul this Wednesday, the Asian Star Prize is a non-competition honor that is
given for worldwide TV production excellence outside of the nominated TV series
for other categories in the Seoul International Drama Awards. This year the
prize was awarded to two TV personalities, with Alden Richards winning
alongside Japanese actor Miura Haruma, who figured in several J-dramas and
films based on popular manga series like “Gokusen” and “Kimi ni Todoke.” For
his part, Alden remarked on the special nature of his Asian Star Prize, seeing
as he received it on the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations
between the Philippines and South Korea.

“It’s such an honor to receive
this award,” stated Alden Richards on his acceptance speech. “Being a Filipino,
I am humbled and grateful to be recognized in the international scene, along
with so many amazing and talented artists.” As of this occasion, Richards has
joined the ranks of fellow Filipino stars Dennis Trillo and Gabby Concepcion as
winners of the SDA Asian Star Prize. “As actors, it is always our hope to make
more people happy and inspire them with our passion. Kamsahamnida!” said Alden
to cap off his speech.
Aside from his new Asian Star
Prize award, Richards has also had the honor of receiving a Silver Medal from
the 2017 New York Festivals, for excellence in acting as part of the martial
law docu-drama special “Alaala” on GMA7.
