KZ TANDINGAN Reps OPM, WOWS Hosts of BBC Radio Show

At any other time, it would have been enough if singer and recording artist KZ Tandingan had remained a popular performer solely in the OPM scene. But opportunities can come and when they are taken there is a chance to go far and above what is already there. KZ becoming a contestant in Chinese singing reality competition “Singer 2018” led to her talents and stage presence catching a larger audience than the Philippines alone. She even befriended fellow overseas contestant, UK recording artists Jessie J. Somehow word of that got back to the UK, because when KZ was in London to promote a local Filipino pop event there, a radio guesting garnered such positive reception.

KZ Tandingan was a slated performer at the London Barrio Fiesta which took place last July 20 to 21 according to ABS-CBN News. To promote the event she appeared on BBC Radio London as a guest on music magazine program “The Scene,” where hosts Salma El-Wardany and LionHeart would end up being blown away by her OPM power. Invited to sing a song, KZ would then perform a number from her current album “Soul Supremacy.” The song in question, “Nag-iisa na Naman,” was of course in Filipino as the acoustic jazz and R&B specialist explained.

Once her performance was finished, the hosts of BBC Radio London’s “The Scene” were absolutely impressed to the point that they made comparisons between KZ and American singer Lauryn Hill of The Fugees. LionHeart described her singing voice as “fire” while El-Wardany remarked, “It was such a privilege to actually sit right next to you and watch you perform that -- to see your expressions and to see the way you were into that song."

KZ and her hosts also talked about other stuff regarding the OPM star’s background, and she once again related her story of nearly quitting singing years ago after polyps started growing in her vocal chords. Tandigan shared the story with Jessie J during their time together at Singer 2018 on China’s Hunan Television, where she said the British star had been one of her inspirations in looking for an alternative vocal range beyond “birit” or belting. She summarized her artistic reinvention as a jazz and R&B specialist with “Every failure is just a redirection to where you should be." KZ then shared her plans to record new songs in Los Angeles for a late 2019 release, part of her goal to make OPM internationally known.
Aside from Tandingan, another major OPM act for the London Barrio Fiesta, organized by the UK Philippine Centre and ABS-CBN/The Filipino Channel, had been Iñigo Pascual, also a guest on “The Scene” along with KZ.
