WB Starts Clash of TITANS with "TEEN TITANS GO! VS, TEEN TITANS" Coming to Video

When DC and Warner Bros. Animation debuted “Teen Titans” on Cartoon Network and Kids’ WB back in 2003, a new generation was introduced to DC’s premiere “junior” superhero team. The fact that show creator Glen Murakami decided to add humor and anime styling to the series animation only cemented this popularity. When the original series concluded and was replaced in 2013 by the more comedic and super-deformed “Teen Titans Go!” the audience was polarized by the change. A 2018 feature-length movie spinoff then teased a possible return of the original-series Teen Titans, but a newly-released trailer reveals something more epic.

Comic Book Resources has it that Warner Bros. Animation is making a sort-of sequel to “Teen Titans Go! to the Movies” heading directly to home media release, and it will feature the funny kiddie versions of the heroes from “Teen Titans Go!” fighting against (and later teaming up) with the 2003 series Teen Titans. And believe it or not, that might be only the beginning. “Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans” is being touted as a dream match between fans of the story-driven anime-like Titans series and the gag-a-minute “Go!” version. Thankfully it seems there is an actual plot going.

The IGN-released trailer starts with the goofy Teen Titans Go! being teleported to a mysterious arena and being bid by the tournament master to fight another team. Said team is of course the 2003-series Teen Titans, which the Go! incarnations describe as the “more serious” of themselves. Things get off track however when the true masterminds are revealed: a team-up of the 2003 and Go! versions of the demon Trigon, working together to conquer the multi-verse. The two alternate Titans teams must work together with even more otherworldly incarnations in order to save existence itself.

Even Warner Bros. seems completely aware that there is a massive fandom of the first “Teen Titans” animation that really cannot stand “Teen Titans Go!” especially for the fact that it still airs new seasons on Cartoon Network to this day. The studio got their hopes up by sneaking a seeming teaser on the ending of “Teen Titans Go! to the Movies” in theaters last year, but apparently the 2003 team is only coming back for this movie. What rankles further is that the film is not a cinematic release but a direct-to-video production, although there would be enough fans who will purchase it anyway.

“Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans” is coming soon to Blu-Ray and digital format, although an official release date has yet to be revealed. The movie stars the Titans voice cast (reprising both 2003 and “Go!” teams) as well as Weird Al Yankovic as Darkseid.
