For Filipinos who happen to be
fans of Korea-novelas, one actor’s name is sure to elicit a lot of delighted
squees. That would be Park Bo-Gum, who might be recalled in the leading role
for “Love in the Moonlight,” which was aired on ABS-CBN and its Pay TV
affiliates. His portrayal of a Crown Prince of Joseon and his dynamics with one
of his eunuchs (a woman in disguise) has been well-remembered. Fans were excited
when he was scheduled to visit the Philippines for a fan meet, an event that
got postponed until this weekend. And to ensure it happens, Park arrived in
Manila today.
GMA Online News tells us that on Thursday morning, June 20, Park
Bo-Gum stepped onto Philippine soil for the first time ever upon his arrival at
the NAIA. This is two days ahead of his rescheduled fan meet event called “Good
Day,” this coming Saturday. As expected, Filipino K-drama fans thronged the walkways
to get a glimpse of one of South Korea’s biggest Oppa-s (big bros) right now.
Escorted by his entourage and NAIA airport security, Park breezed through the
arrival area, although he did have a big smile for his fans to the sidelines.
Park’s “Good Day” meet-and-greet
event, a collaborative effort between his agency and local promotion Ovation
Productions, had originally been scheduled for April 27. Unfortunately it was
put on hold when a strong earthquake struck Metro Manila at the time. Much to
the frustration of the Korean actor’s Filipino fan base, the date was rescheduled
for June, with Park himself extending his apologies to the fans via Twitter. Ultimately,
after almost two months of waiting and anticipation the country’s
Koreanovela-loving community will get to meet Prince Lee Yeong (2016’s “Love in
the Moonlight”) in the flesh.
And Park Bo-Gum’s following goes
beyond the Filipino masa. Celebrities are gaga over him too. As Cosmopolitan PH has it, actress-host and
fan benefactress Anne Curtis-Smith held a social media promo since the 14th
for her Twitter followers, with five tickets to “Good Day” on the line. The
lucky winners were then announced on Tuesday, June 18. That is all well and
good, considering Anne herself will be the host of the meet-and-greet with PBG.
The “Good Day” fan event with the heartthrob actor is on for June 22 at the SM
Mall of Asia.
