There was once a time when actress-host Kris Aquino was so ubiquitous on film appearances and television hosting gigs. It was not for nothing that she received the title “Queen of All Media” for the fact that she was just about everywhere in those days. As the 2010s rolled in however, Kris began letting go of her standing obligations to take what was assumed to be a long break from media work. Recently in the previous year however, she intimated that she was battling against a significant medical condition. Over the past weekend, the first of 2019, Kris finally laid out the full, sobering details.
ABS-CBN News reports that Kris Aquino revealed the extent of her medical condition on social media last Saturday, clarifying her past updates on her illness by outright stating that she is battling a form of lupus. On a Facebook Live post, dated January 5, Kris recalled on October of 2018 that she detailed being diagnosed with chronic spontaneous urticarial, and how her various allergies stymied options for a cure. Then she added, “I’m allergic to every single medicine that can cure you or at least manage your symptoms kung may lupus ka. All my doctors are doing now is delaying it. They’re delaying the inevitable.”
The impromptu tell-all was the latest in an exchange of heated arguments between Kris and her former business partner Nicko Falcis, whom the Queen of All Media was taking to court for having cost her over a million pesos due to using her credit card without her knowledge. Falcis had shot back in an interview that not only was the accusation false but that Kris had actually given him a verbal death threat in September 2018. The actress for her part remarked that Falcis’ camp was uninterested in any settlement over the case despite her side pushing for that outcome.
Lupus is an autoimmune disorder wherein the body’s immune system attacks healthy tissue. Kris Aquino’s variant meant that any medication designed to alleviate the symptoms of lupus would trigger severe allergic reactions for her, leaving the lupus unchecked to attack her health further. Kris said she was in tears when her physicians noted that all they could do was maintenance to keep her inevitable physical deterioration from happening quickly. The extent of her condition was revealed in a weekend Instagram post showing her noticeably thinner.
At the latest, Kris is in Singapore since Sunday for an in-depth diagnosis of her tissues and internal organs via positron emission tomography (PET) scan. She also noted that she might drop off from social media again to cut down on more sources of stress.
