Back in 2011, HBO took the plunge in adapting “A Song of Ice and Fire”, the popular medieval fantasy book series written by George R.R. Martin. The resulting series was “Game of Thrones”, named after the first book of the series, and became a media phenomenon with its mature storytelling of family dynamics and royal politics, plus a penchant for killing characters left and right throughout its several seasons. But it all comes to a close with its upcoming eighth and final season this year. Production of the series’ conclusion however has left its cast, especially Kit Harington, to be really tired of the franchise.
Entertainment Tonight tells us that British actor Kit Harington, who brought to life the bastard with kingly blood Jon Snow in “Game of Thrones”, has admitted that he and his cast-mates have been pushed to the brink of physical and emotional exhaustion in the course of the production for Season 8, which will finally bring the saga of Westeros, its dynastic struggles and its existential crisis in the face of the cataclysmic White Walkers, to a final end. Harington frankly declares on GQ Australia that he had gotten sick of his role and the show.
“The last season of Thrones, seemed to be designed to break us,” Harington said. “Everyone was broken at the end.” The actor went on to describe the general mood among the primary “Game of Thrones” cast, saying they were unable to tell if they were emotional because the series was ending of if they were simply ground down by the routine. “We were sleep deprived,” he adds. “I remember everyone walking around towards the end going, ‘I’ve had enough now. I love this, it’s been the best thing in my life, I’ll miss it one day — but I’m done.'”
Not everything about “Game of Thrones” was sour for Kit Harington, of course. For one thing, he met his wife there. Actress Rose Leslie played Jon Snow’s almost-love interest Ygritte the wildling. Nevertheless, Harington says he looks forward to a monotonous everyday life, or as monotonous as can be for an actor, after spending almost 10 years bringing a popular medieval fantasy character to life. Of course, this translates to having more personal time with Leslie, something he at least is grateful for. “I thank the show for everything. But more than anything else, I thank it for introducing me to her,” the actor remarks.
“Game of Thrones” will premiere its eighth and final season on HBO this coming April. A small teaser was shared in the 76th Golden Globe Awards Sunday, showing Jon Snow introducing Queen Daenerys to his half-sister (actually cousin) Sansa Stark.
