“Power Rangers” is undoubtedly one of the most iconic child-targeted franchises to come out of the nineties; and despite some troubled periods in its production history, has tried to remain in the air through succeeding years and seasons. It has changed hands several times, from original creator Saban Entertainment, to BVS Entertainment under Disney, back to Saban Brands, and just this July to current owner Hasbro. This year is also the 25th Anniversary of the program, and a special episode celebrating that milestone is being shot for the current series “Power Rangers: Super Ninja Steel”, with several returning Ranger actors.
Comicbook.com tells us that all is in readiness concerning the production of the special 25th Anniversary episode of the “Power Rangers” franchise on “Power Rangers: Super Ninja Steel”, with its airing scheduled for later this month. Specifically, it will show on August 28, the same day in 1993 when the premiere episode of “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” came out on what was then the Fox Kids Network. As expected of franchise anniversary celebrations, that usually involves the current generation of Power Rangers teaming with past characters from previous seasons. At least three of those returning for this episode were confirmed.

They are Jason David Frank, who portrayed Tommy Oliver who was the Green – and White – Rangers for “Mighty Morphin”, Red in both “Zeo” and “Turbo”, and Black in “Dino Thunder”; Catherine Sutherland as Katherine Hillard, the second Mighty Morphin Pink Ranger, ZeoRanger 1 – Pink, and the first Pink Turbo Ranger; and finally there is Jason Faunt who portrayed Wesley Collins the Red “Time Force” Ranger. Images have been shared of behind-the-scenes footage, with the three actors filming on location and even a shot of them preparing to morph into Rangers. Kat is using her Zeo power and Tommy, original Green.
While they have moved on to other projects following their tenure on the long-running show, these actors tend to have fond memories of being “Power Rangers” and are excited to do it again. Jason Frank recalls working with Jason Faunt in the “Forever Red” 10th Anniversary episode on “Power Rangers: Wild Force” and is looking forward to this collaboration. He also would like to make up for the 20th Anniversary episode on 2014’s “Power Rangers: Super Megaforce” with this outing.
“The episode by far is probably one of my favorite episodes, probably out of the whole franchise, I would imagine,” notes Jason David Frank after wrapping up work on the 25th Anniversary Episode. Jason Faunt concurs that it might be better than the “Super Megaforce” finale with had been the 20th milestone episode, remarking “Yes, It’s very safe to say.”
“Power Rangers: Super Ninja Steel” is currently airing on Nickelodeon.
