TOM HOLLAND Spoils Subtitle of MCU “SPIDER-MAN” Sequel for 2019

When we last saw the character of Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he was deathly afraid, saying he did not feel so good as he crumbles to dust, one of the many victims of the villainous triumph of Thanos in “Avengers: Infinity War” last May. That was a far cry from the hopeful conclusion of his 2017 solo outing “Spider-Man: Homecoming”, and seemed like it just closed the book on the character and his actor, Tom Holland. But fret not; an MCU “Spider-Man” sequel is still coming after 2019’s “Avengers 4”. Holland even spoiled its subtitle.
That much we learned from The Verge, which tells us that the 22-year-old English actor may have once again held true to his online nickname of “Spoiler-Man” when he inadvertently revealed the tag title for the next “Spider-Man” movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the weekend. Said reveal, with all the expected Tom Holland goofiness, was done on site at the Seattle Ace Comic Con which went on from June 22 to 24. Holland had posted a video of himself on Instagram at the venue, where he was with fellow MCU stars like Tom “Loki” Hiddleston for interview panels.
On his video, Holland apologizes for there apparently not being any official info from Marvel Studios regarding the “Spider-Man” sequel during the Ace Comic Con, and that he himself is still in the dark about its overall plot. He also comically expresses befuddlement at how his character will figure in that future film considering that he did die at the denouement of “Avengers: Infinity War”. What he can share however was that Marvel Studios has given him the script online. Here he holds up a tablet computer with the MCU “Spider-Man” logo, with “Far From Home” written underneath the title.

While “Far From Home” may seem to be an attempt to run a theme with the previous film’s “Homecoming” subtitle, this tease by Tom Holland ties in to small snippets of information about the “Spider-Man” sequel mentioned last April by Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige. He mentioned that filming for that movie could start in July, and the location is London; the reason for this being that Peter Parker would leave his New York City hometown/superhero grounds to travel the globe during what is assumedly a school vacation. The fact that the location is at Holland’s home country seems convenient.
Aside from Holland and Hiddleston, Anthony “Falcon” Mackey and Elizabeth “Scarlet Witch” Olsen were also present at the Seattle Ace Comic Con last weekend. The apparently fully-revealed “Spider-Man: Far From Home” is allegedly courting Jake Gyllenhaal to portray the villain Mysterio, and is expected to premiere in July 5, 2019.
