It is often a great shock whenever a famous celebrity with a notably clean enough public image is later discovered to have hidden vices, even more so when these figurative skeletons in the closet are brought to light by that person’s own failing. Demi Lovato has come a long way from her rise to prominence on Disney Channel with the TV films “Camp Rock” and its sequel. Now she is a successful recording artist with a hand in both political activism and charitable philanthropy. All that came crashing down this week following Lovato’s hospitalization following an overdose on controlled substances.
Variety has it that Demi Lovato was rushed to the hospital this Tuesday, July 24, from her Hollywood Homes residence along Laurel View Drive. The Los Angeles Police Department was sent to the area in response to a call for a medical emergency, law enforcement spokesmen said. Lovato’s malady was diagnosed as a drug overdose, although a representative denies that the substance which laid her low was heroin. A source at the Los Angeles hospital that the singer-actress was taken to, reports that she is now in a “stable” condition.
In line with this, an official statement was released by Lovato’s representative that reads: “Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support. Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy and not speculation as her health and recovery is the most important thing right now.” Lovato had indeed been open about her substance abuse and the rehabilitation she has undergone in the past. Unfortunately, a new song that she released just last month entitled “Sober” has shocked fans with the somber implication that Lovato has strayed from the straight and narrow path.
The responses to news of the singer-actress’ drug-related hospitalization was swift and decisive. Lovato was supposed to perform in concert at Atlantic City Beach this coming Thursday, July 25; that is cancelled now, with the venue now shopping for a replacement headlining celebrity. Fox TV is also pulling out its next episode airing of the game show “Beat Shazam”, taped back in April 2017 with Lovato making an appearance. “In light of recent reports, we have decided to replace the episode of BEAT SHAZAM with another all-new episode,” Fox related in an official announcement, though they did end on a conciliatory note with the closing regards: “Our thoughts go out to Demi and her family.”
