CHANNING TATUM and JENNA DEWAN of “STEP UP” Fame Now SEPARATED

Way back in 2006, Summit Entertainment through Buena Vista Pictures put out a dance-theme romance movie that featured an already-cliché plot of a forming connection between two unlikely dance partners: an aimless hip-hop dancer from the rough streets and a skilled ballerina from the Maryland School of Arts working to make a foundation for a professional career. That film was “Step Up”, and it not only kicked off a franchise with four additional films and a TV series, it established the acting cred of its stars Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan, who later married and were together for nine years.
But that’s over now, according to CNNChanning and Jenna Dewan Tatum dropped the bombshell on Monday, April 2, that they are separating after almost a decade of marriage. The joint announcement was made public on both of the stars’ Instagram pages, which start off with a rather cute note of hesitation over breaking the news that the two of them were going their separate ways. They did however get a nice dig at the pervading “post-factual” atmosphere by resolving to state their case themselves rather than let the news pick it up and potentially twist truth into “alternative facts”.
The second paragraph of the announcement by the former Mr. and Mrs. Tatum, leads with the simple line that they have “lovingly” separated as a couple. “We fell deeply in love so many years ago and have had a magical journey together,” they went on. “Absolutely nothing has changed about how much we love one another, but love is a beautiful adventure that is taking us on different paths for now.” That said, the ex-couple also insisted that their decision was not spurred by any damaging secrets or scandals. On that note, it comes off as a typical “Hollywood breakup.”
Following their starring role in “Step Up” Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan wed three years later, in 2009. The two were blessed with one daughter during their time together. Such was the publicly-perceived strength of their marriage that their last Instagram photo together last March held no hint to this event whatsoever.
At present, Tatum is cast in the animated short film “Smallfoot” as the voice of Migo, while Dewan has kept to the dance world with her hosting duties at “World of Dance” on NBC. Both have not forgotten their time in “Step Up”, given that they are listed as executive producers of the online TV spinoff “Step Up: High Water”, which premiered on YouTube Red in January of this year.
