General Santos City is a growing city to this very day. New establishments, new businesses are starting at a healthy rate each year, along with the infrastructure to support them. In turn, more and more people are coming to General Santos; tourists looking to explore the surrounding areas, prospective job hunters looking for employment, managers and executives stopping by to meet and conduct business transactions, students rooming in while attending higher educational institutions, these various people come to Gensan with the prospect of staying for a while. And since there’s reliably so many of them, the city has built up a thriving economy of providing a wide spectrum of accommodations, from brief visitors to transient travelers and more regular habitants.

Now, while the extent of expansion in General Santos City is ideally welcome for business and the economy under idealized circumstances, reality hits with a jarring halt. An increase in city development, an increase in population (resident and temporary) inevitably leads to a massive up-jump in energy consumption. This dilemma struck Gensan several years ago due to some harsh heat waves and dry spells messing with the country’s hydroelectric power generation, a most unfortunate and uncomfortable time for all in the city due to regularized and hours-spanning electrical interruptions that caused havoc in business hours and made already hot heads even hotter.

Somehow the power supply problems were significantly addressed with the opening of new power plants, and more recent years have been a tad more merciful whenever the energy reserves got lean. But if there was one good thing about that brief nightmare were the resulting greater awareness in alternate renewable energy sources and an increase in their use throughout the local community. Solar panels came into the city’s public consciousness. Some houses and businesses began trying them out, especially in the more sun-baked areas of Gensan. A trend for smarter and more eco-friendly building construction also took root. The most prominent example of this had been the Veranza “green mall”, which allowed plenty of sunlight into its structure during the day so that only tenant spaces had their lights on until sundown.
You’re probably wondering where this train of thought is going to lead. Well wonder no more. Just this month of March, General Santos City was graced with the opening of a new trend in accommodation, a hostel that offers quality accommodations while simultaneously employing genuine green aesthetics and renewable energy power generation. This is the advent of Tri-Seven Ecostel, the newest eco-friendly hostel in Gensan.

Located just a short path off of Mateo Road, Tri-Seven Ecostel is now open and ready to show guests and visitors a totally new wave that other hostel accommodations could follow. Nestled in a near-1000-square meter plot of nicely developed land, they boast a total of 64 individual accommodations on a two-story L-shaped building complex. It’s not just all that however; the developers know the value of mixing in green with the expected urban gray, and they have provided their prospective guests and tenants with grass, potted hanging plants, tall bamboo and a tree with a garden, to bring a varied taste of nature deep in the heart of the city.

Tri-Seven Ecostel has 15 air-conditioned rooms located at the ground floor facing the courtyard. Each of them has a comfortable double bed, work table, and a small sink with mirror. The non-air-conditioned rooms – preferable for monthly renting guests – come with a bunk bed, a small kitchen area with sink and shelves. Both types of rooms however boast a tiled toilet/bathroom with hot and cold showers (plus handheld shower-heads).

Perhaps the biggest draw about Tri-Seven Ecostel is how they take their name seriously with the employment of eco-friendly alternative energy sources. On one side of the courtyard area are several posts holding up solar panels to catch the sunlight. This solar energy is stored to help with powering the Ecostel’s electricity needs. The mere fact that Tri-Seven is capable of generating part of its own power supply is a tremendous boon to saving energy costs for guests.

All rooms at Tri-Seven Ecostel are negotiable for variable terms of stay, with guests able to choose between a daily, weekly, or monthly payment rates. In this way, their quality accommodations are available at reasonably affordable prices depending on how long guests may plan to stay. And let’s not forget that Tri-Seven Ecostel’s address off Mateo Road means it is literally a short walk or a brief ride away from General Santos City’s major malls – Gaisano, KCC/Veranza and SM City.

With all these features, advantages and perks, one can safely say that Tri-Seven Ecostel is going to be one of the hottest hostels to stay in here at Gensan. Interested parties may get in touch with them for further questions and rate inquiries at 0917-7249370, or send email to:
