“LEGO BATMAN” Gets BILLY DEE WILLIAMS as TWO-FACE

When he showed up with a prominent role in 2014’s “The Lego Movie” from Warner Brothers, nobody would have thought that Batman’s breakout appearance (even if in Lego form and parody-OOC) will actually go so far as land him a starring role in a Lego spinoff flick later on. But after getting a look at the first trailer you can only think, why wouldn’t he get to headline a Lego movie? Recent outing of Batman in Warner Brothers Animation has run the gamut from maturely dark (“The Killing Joke” DTV) to caricaturing fun (“Return of the Caped Crusaders”, also DTV). But “The Lego Batman Movie” is something else. And a Batman veteran of sorts in the cast will only push thing to a higher and possibly wackier level.

This just in from Comic Book Resources, it’s been confirmed that longtime actor Billy Dee Williams will be lending his voice to the CGI animated feature. Those in the know will easily mark him as having played Lando Calrissian in the second and third films of the original “Star Wars” trilogy, but savvier movie buffs will remember him as having played Gotham City district attorney Harvey Dent in the 1989 Tim Burton-directed “Batman” blockbuster starring Michael Keaton as the Dark Knight. It had been plotted out that in future franchise sequels by Burton, William’s character would undergo the development that turned him into the Batman Comics villain Two-Face, but it never materialized and Williams only ever appeared once in the role.

Well now, that ephemeral role will finally get to be played out, when Williams joins the cast as Two-Face. “Lego Batman’s” director Chris McKay officially confirmed as much in a November 30 Tweet. It would be an interesting experience for Williams seeing as his role was taken up by Tommy Lee Jones in 1995’s “Batman Forever” directed by Joel Schumacher.

Already Lego has revealed the movie merchandise “Arkham Asylum” Lego set, spoiling character designs for the movie’s characters. Most have already featured in the past trailer, but also included is the Lego Two-Face, along with Dr. Harleen Quinzel (who as everybody knows is, or in this film becomes, Harley Quinn).

“Lego Batman” stars Will Arnett reprising his role from “The Lego Movie” as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Also featured are Ralph Fiennes as Alfred, Michael Cera as Dick Grayson/Robin, Rosario Dawson as Barbara Gordon Batgirl, Zach Galifianakis as The Joker and Mariah Carey as the Gotham City mayor. It’s a Lego retelling the origin of Bruce’s crime-fighting partner Robin, with all the zaniness and comedy that comes along with it. The film’s set to premiere in theaters worldwide on February 10, 2017.
