2:17 AM George (W) Bush, Hospital, Kanye West in Hospital, Kim Kardashian, Mark Zuckerberg, New York, News., Tour, Trump presidency, UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles No comments
It’s been something of a weird past week for Kanye West. After garnering a big “Huh?” from fans with an abrupt endorsement of Donald Trump’s election to the presidency (despite adding that he himself didn’t vote) during a November 17 concert of his national tour, and then on his next concert Sunday November 20 upsetting that night’s audience by walking out of the show after a late start and only two songs followed by an expletive-filled tirade against Beyoncé and Jay-Z (pretty much forcing Ticketmaster to refund tickets with an apology), a new development on this unusual drama has found the rapper and fountain of memes in – of all places – the hospital.
USA Today has it that west has been hospitalized at the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles close on the heels of that last on-stage rant. The events leading up to this involved the LAPD responding to a call from West Hollywood’s North Laurel Avenue, that afternoon (local) of Monday November 21, alternatively described as a disturbance (by LAPD Officer Mike Lopez) or a request for medical aid (by another source close to the West family). The same source described Kanye’s stay at the UCLA Medical Center being treatment for “exhaustion”, while the police did not identify the person involved, owing to medical privacy.
Kanye has long been reputed as deliberately generating controversy to draw attention, but fans were flummoxed as to the abrupt turnaround of the rapper and his attitude from his “George (W) Bush doesn’t care for black people” statement while co-hosting a 2005 telethon for Hurricane Katrina, to his non-backed but vocal support for Trump last Thursday, which only escalated into his Sunday verbal attack against fellow performers, Mark Zuckerberg and a host of other names known to have been opposed to a Trump presidency. Shortly after his hospital admission, all 21 remaining concert dates in his national tour were cancelled.
Another source tells People of West’s state of being prior to going to the hospital, quoted as saying that Kanye was “exhausted and currently dealing with sleep deprivation…He went to the hospital at will under the advice of his physician." The anonymous source also heard the rapper speaking of being under spiritual attack, to quote: ““He feels like it’s a trying time for his spirit, but that can be a good thing…But that’s where growth comes from.”
West’s wife Kim Kardashian was in New York that Monday, set to attend a charity event in honor of her late father. She skipped the event and flew to Los Angeles immediately after hearing of her husband’s hospital stay.
Despite his recent polarizing commentary, Kanye still retains a following of celebrity friends and fans, who have posted on Tweeter wishing him well.
