Dream Ends with BRAD and ANGELINA Divorce

When show business interacts with the real world it’s often a certainty that “fairy tales” wrought out of relationships, and occasionally marriages, between personalities of the entertainment industry are anything but, or if true at first then almost surely doesn’t go on into “happily ever after”.

While jaded fans and followers of the showbiz world can at best weather the news of yet another entertainment couple breaking up, when the pair happens to be major names not just in the business but outside of it, the commentary and emotions are certain to fly fast and furious.

So it was then with the case of the ultimate showbiz couple: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie-Pitt, “Brangelina” to their staunchest devotees. As The New York Times tells the news, Jolie has filed for divorce from Pitt due to “irreconcilable differences”, after two years of being married and over a decade of being the item to end all items in show business.

In addition, Jolie has petitioned that the courts grant her physical custody of her and Pitt’s six children, three of whom by adoption, while simultaneously giving him visitation rights, as well as retaining all miscellaneous personal effects such as jewelry and earnings accrued from the date of their separation; the documentation listed it as September 15, 2016 – two years and a month after their small and private wedding at their estate in Southern France back in August of 2014.

Her lawyer Robert Offer issued a statement explaining that the divorce was being done for the health of the Pitt-Jolie family, and that Jolie will make no comments whatsoever along with requests that they be given privacy. Pitt in the meantime spoke to People magazine, expressing his sadness at the turn of events in their lives, but also wants to prioritize the well-being of their children, and joins her now ex-wife in calls to “give them space”.

The publicizing of the end of #Brangelina on Tuesday September 20 caused the portmanteau couple name to shoot to number 1 trending on Twitter, with the expected varied reactions from fans and reactors, with some seeing the whole enterprise as a welcome distraction to the ugly war of words that the US Presidential Election campaign has devolved to.

After working together in the hit 2004 action flick “Mr. & Mrs. Smith”, both Angelina and Brad, divorced from previous marriages, with the former raising her adopted son Maddox, became paired in the showbiz consciousness, in the years they have been together, Brangelina also became outspoken humanitarians, with Jolie being a UN ambassador for refugees and Pitt co-founding an organization advocating against genocide. Both have also made millions selling photographs of themselves and their children and donating the proceeds entirely to charity.
