We’ve run stories here of the latest, hottest automobiles to hit Philippine shores before, and this piece shall be an addition to those articles catering to your taste for quality rides.
Isuzu has long been a popular and common brand in pickup trucks here in the Philippines for years. As the years passed and cars got, well, buffed and pimped, the Isuzu pickup line has kept with the pace of changing trends. Now the next step in their midsized pickups has been revealed.
At the Marriot Hotel in Pasay City, the Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) introduced the country to the 2017 Isuzu D-Max. Its predecessor has topped the Department of Energy’s Fuel Economy Run as the most fuel-efficient vehicle in the Philippines today, according to CarGuide.ph. Now its latest incarnation boasts a mad set of improvements to near-perfection, ensuring that the new D-Max is beefier than ever yet tough, enduring, and easy on the money.
The 2017 Isuzu D-Max has a redesigned front grille and hood that gives it an even more rugged yet still classy mug. Its projector headlights are now joined by daytime running lights. The tailgate now comes with a spoiler shape, LED taillights and a chrome door. The side mirrors are power-folding with attached LED turn signals that’ll really get your intention across to motorists when turning.
The interior is no slouch either with a more gadget-y instrumentation panel and an easier-to- read MID. For manual transmission variants a gear indicator will flash on the display next to the engine temperature and fuel gauge cluster. Rounding out the perks are auto-climate control, a 7-inch navigator touchscreen and the brand-new smart key entry and start/stop button for the engine.
Speaking of which, the D-Max is driven by the same Isuzu 4JJ1 3-liter diesel engine that goes under the hood of the car company’s light truck series for impressive power that turns other pickups into a joke in comparison, with its 163 PS and 3200 rpm. Both manual and auto transmission variants are 5-speed with sequential shift. And prospective owners can choose between 4x2 and 4x4 drive variants according to their needs.
IPC president Hajime Koso waxed eloquent on the new D-Max’s balance of power and coolness in his speech during the presentation. “For many of our customers around the world, the Isuzu D-Max has become their trustworthy companion for both family and business use,” he said. “After all, the D- Max is stylish, and yet it is also very tough…Yes, it is tough, but it doesn’t lose its chill.”
The available colors for the 2017 Isuzu D-Max are Cosmic Black, Obsidian Gray, Splash White, Titanium Silver and Venetian Red.
