When the tsunami from the Indian Ocean hit Phuket way back in December of 2004, it killed 250 people and wrecked some of the Thai island province’s best beaches. The fact that most of the damaged resorts were back to normal operation just the following month of the following year was most reassuring to both the people of Thailand and the scores of foreign tourists and visitors of Phuket.
It could be said that serving the role of a shining beacon of stability to travelers was the Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort and Spa which, despite being of walking distance to then-devastated Karon Beach, was largely spared the least bit of destruction wrought by the tsunami. Today you can’t possibly go wrong with booking a stay at the Arcadia while in Phuket, knowing you will be both safe and enjoying yourself.
The Hilton Phuket grounds cover 75 acres, easily one of the biggest resort hotels in Phuket in terms of accommodation. Its setting is decidedly idyllic, with nearby gardens, mountains, little waterfalls and of course the Andaman seacoast with its beaches of golden sand. Any guest room given you is bright and cheery with its traditional Thai styling, giving you the world-famous Hilton brand-name service with a welcome native touch.
If swimming out in the beach is not for you at the moment, you certainly can’t go wrong with taking a dip in any of the Hilton Phuket’s impressive five outdoor pools. One is attached to the Spa facilities of the Arcadia, while two are center-pieces of some of the resort’s wide variety of restaurants and bars where you can soak in after a hearty meal or a nice pint. You can dine in style or help yourself to a nice selection of alcohol chilled to perfection if you like it. The Hilton Phuket is no slouch when it comes to that.
So let’s take a closer look at what available dining choices you have at the Arcadia Resort and Spa. You can start the day with breakfast at either the poolside Sails Restaurant or the Buon Appetito. Sails Restaurant offers the well-known Breakfast at Hilton, with a trusty all-day breakfast meal or more specialized morning fare, either Western or Asian. You can even make your own sandwiches with filling and garnish of your pick. The selections change over the course of the day as Sails can go from 6 to 10 daily. Alternatively, you can satisfy your craving for Italian at the Buon Appetito. They have a dizzying selection of Antipasti, Soups, Pizza and Pasta with all the appropriate trimmings, or a more generalized international menu. The Buon Appetito also prides itself with its offering of freshly squeezed juice for a natural pick-me- up. Do note that this restaurant may have seasonal opening and closing times, though it normally goes from 6 to 10 also.
The Caffé Cino has got your snack needs under control 7 to 9, and you can enjoy your selection of pastries even as you relax and surf through your email inbox or social media account. Here you can make your own salad or savour a nice hot mug of their best coffee or espresso with your choice of syrupy toppings even as you hold impromptu little meetings with family, friends or business partners. Cold drinks are also available, if you’d prefer to observe people at the garden pool just outside the window.
A third poolside dining place is the Ocean Beach Club, open 9 to 9 evening (if the weather plays nice). Its main fare is lunch while you lounge at the pool deck with cocktails and a commanding elevated view of Karon Beach and the Andaman Sea beyond. Then in the evening you can feast on grilled everything “from the sea, the land, the sky” and even “the garden”. The Mediterranean cuisine is awesome.
The Andaman Lounge is where you go to in Hilton Phuket if you thirst for a really cold drink. Nothing better than meeting new friends and old for a relaxing rendezvous with fine nightly live entertainment. But the Andaman is known for more than just that, as it open early enough at 9 in the morning with its own mouth-watering meal selection.
Lastly we have the Thai Thai Bar. Lest you forget that you’re vacationing in Thailand, the Arcadia’s dedicated native Thai cuisine restaurant with artistic Thai décor and the most heavyweight traditional Thai cooking serves delicious meals and seafoods. It’s a night venue that starts offering dinner 6 evening to 10.
There’s no question about it that guests and their stomachs will certainly enjoy their stay at the Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort and Spa. Its tranquil surroundings and expansive gallery of places to eat is certain to spoil you for good food. You don’t know what you’re missing if you choose any other place but the Arcadia to stay in when going to Phuket. Don’t ever make such a mistake.
