Grand Mercure Phuket Patong, A Grand Place to Stay

I visited the Grand Mercure recently and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Phuket Thailand. Not only are the resort’s accommodations and amenities superb, the surrounding area provides ample opportunities for the tourist in you to jump for joy.

The Grand Mercure is a hotel resort that sits on Phuket’s west coast , a 10 minute walking distance from Patong Beach where sparkling white sand and the glorious blue waters of the Andaman Sea beckon you forth. It’s a perfect place to for the adventurous tourist, providing a bounty of shopping, dining, and drinking opportunities. The resort, itself, offers up a romantic interlude environment with a number of the comforts and amenities to supersede your expectations.

- Three Lagoon Pools
- Spa
- Fitness Center
- Private Pool Villas
- Luxurious Rooms
- Three Dining Venues
- Craft Beer Lounge
- An Exclusive Grand Mercure Club
- Proximity to local attractions as well as shopping, and local dining and social venues

Every time I travel, the first thing I always notice is the service that I receive. Customer service is crucial in the hospitality industry and I was certainly not let down in the least. My full experience with each and every employee who crossed my path was a pleasant one. They always greeted me with a smile, some even asking how my stay was going, or if I had a chance to sample some of the cuisine in their restaurant, or the comforts of their spa. I had, of course, but it was truly refreshing to experience the attention to detail being given to individual guests.

I did a quick web search when I was trying to decide on where to stay in Phuket and the Grand Mercure stood out and seemed to call to me. The gallery offered up some beautiful images of the different styles of rooming the resort had to offer making my task of selecting one all the more difficult.  Eventually, however, I opted for a one bedroom pool villa and I’m glad that I did. It was perfect! The bedroom overlooks a private pool and deck with lush greenery, giving you a sense of solitude. The luxurious rooms all contain the best comforts of plush bedding to snuggle you in each night. The views from the rooms vary from one room to the next, but each offers something special to view whether it is the deluxe room overlooking the resort’s lagoon pools (which I also got the chance to sleep in), or a panoramic view of the city.

If you like to maintain a healthy workout each day, then you are going to love the Grand Mercure’s fitness center and spa. Unlike a number of other places that I’ve visited, the Grand Mercure’s fitness center is sizeable enough to make your workout comfortable without cramming everyone into a tiny space and expecting them to simply “share.”

Additionally, the Grand Mercure also offers a spa where you can go for a relaxing, pampered treatment.

One of the first few amenities most people look for in a hotel or resort is the availability of a pool. There is something about having the ability to take a dip and soak up the sun without having to travel further than your accommodations own grounds. While there are villas and rooms with private pools available at Grand Mercure, if you opt for a room without a private pool, worry not, the resort has you covered with not one, but three lagoon pools for your pleasure.

Food and Drinks

Upon arrival at the hotel, an orchid extract complimentary drink will be served to you . When it comes to the food offered by the Grand Mercure, I am not sure where to start. I had the pleasure to sample from each of the resort’s dining venues and, I must say, the food and drinks were to die for. I was truly impressed with the selections and offerings available. With that said, I’ll begin with the food.

The Grand Mercure has four different dining venues and all of them are truly amazing. During the first night of my stay I opted to dine at the resort’s restaurant, Bubbles. I had the creamy cheese roasted chicken entrée and an Australian rib eye steak, and to be quite honest, I could’ve eaten the same thing each night of my stay and been happy about it. It arrived with its juices still flowing from it. It was so good, delicious, and perfectly seasoned that it still makes my mouth water just thinking about it. However, I did sample other dishes, of course.

Bubbles is unique, in that they offer a wide variety of cuisines available in a one-stop-shop kind of way, and the food is so fantastic, that I wouldn’t have it any other way. Where else can you go to order a Mee Hoon Keang Poo?, an authentic thai noodle meal served with  a Thai Burger?. The appetizers (prawns wrapped in chorizo and the black pepper crusted ahi tuna) are enough reasons for you not to look for anything else.

Craft Beer Lounge

As much as I enjoyed my Bubbles experience, I make it my goal to experience as much as possible at each destination to gain the most from my travels. With that said, by the time evening rolled around, I was ready for something new and the Craft Beer Lounge had just what I was looking for. The mojito was just heavenly that I could scream wanting for more!

The Craft Beer Lounge has something for everyone with a wide variety of craft beers to choose from.  As for me, I saw two interesting brews right away that I had to try. Call it a name thing, if you like.  My first experience was with a brew called Ridiculously Close to Sanity, while the second was Dangerously Close to Stupid. Both were Copenhagen brews and I believe the unique name was likely attributed to the strength of alcohol content in each, as opposed to an open suggestion. At least, I hope so.

Ridiculously Close to Sanity was a medium golden brew with a lasting froth. The citrus and pine aroma is what hits you first and then carries through. It was a bit on the bitter side, which is probably the hops, though I did enjoy the crispness with fruity undertones that it offered.

I followed that up with Dangerously Close to Stupid, since that’s how I chose to roll, and I’m glad that I did. It had a rich golden color with a lasting head. The flavor was citrus and pine as well. However satisfying as it was, this is one beer that you don’t want to drink too fast.
They also have the famous San Miguel Beer from the Philippines.

The Craft Beer Lounge isn’t all beer, though, so make no mistake. They also offer a number of cocktails and other options. The place has the feel of a blended sports bar with a huge LCD TV screen, games, pool, and relaxing music to set your mood and ease your mind while you kick back your heels and take it all in.

Chou Chou Deli

When it comes to food, if you’re not looking for a full restaurant experience and are just looking for a quick bite before exploring the area, then pop on in to the Grand Mercure’s bistro, the Chou Chou Deli Shop. From the moment you walk through the door, the aromas that surround you are comparable to those found within a fine bakery. The place oozed with sweet aromas and blended well with the deli’s other offerings I knew from the moment I stepped into the shop that this was going to be one of my personal favorite eateries in Phuket Patong. Of course, it doesn’t help if you have a sweet tooth to begin with. I could really pack on a few pounds in this place. I got to try their Blackforest and Carrot Cakes.

The Parisian style sandwiches were phenomenal.  Despite my stomach’s desire to sample each and everything I saw, I opted for a Panini for lunch, but who can stop there with so many sweet treats to choose from? They have mango and green tea éclairs! I love éclairs and I planned to have one, but I couldn’t decide which I wanted more, the mango or the green tea éclair. So, I tossed caution to the wind and had them both. I’ve never tasted anything like them before, but neither can I now forget them either.

Bounce Pool Bar

Not everyone enjoys the bustling environment of the local city center or the beach front scene and Grand Mercure understands this as well. For this reason, they also offer the Bounce Pool Bar at poolside where you can order your favorite cocktails and snacks, or have a sandwich or salad.  Either way, enjoying it at poolside can help you beat the heat of the day while you relax. The last time I tried something like this was when I was in Indonesia at the Bintan Lagoon Resort.

Grand Mercure Club

The Grand Mercure Club is an exclusive dining spot reserved only for those guests who are staying in one of the resort’s Pool Access Rooms or Villas. The club offers a complimentary assortment of refreshments and snacks each day. If you’re looking for a fairly quiet place to relax and maybe read a book or magazine, this is the place to be. The club provides reading materials, internet access, and a 46” television. With so much to offer, why not visit the Grand Mercure Phuket Patong today?
