Philippines up with 5G
Smart introduces LTE-Advanced
Wireless Service Leader Smart Communications, Inc announced that 5G LTE Advanced is now up with the strongest and largest network.
LTE-A is referred to as ‘5G’, 10 times faster than 3G services and more than twice of 4G speed coording to reports by leading global mobile operators AT&T and T-Mobile. LTE-A delivers data from between 100 megabits per second (mbps) to 1 gigabit per second (Gbps).
Smart joins few carriers around the world with an LTE-A network, along with the leaders in mobile operators in South Korea, United States, Singapore, Australia, and Hong Kong.
Orlando B. Vea, founder and Chief Wireless Advisor of Smart said that Smart is the 1st operator to leap into the future and put the Philippines at par with the world’s most advanced countries in terms of mobile communications technology.
With LTE-A, a 10MB file doesn't take a second to download, YouTube videos need not buffer, and video calls are clear and mostly lag-free. But beyond that speed, LTE-A’s main feature is to distribute more network resources to users when the need goes up. Smart has started testing LTE-A across the country in August last year, getting results of more than 100Mbps in major cities like Makati, Boracay and Davao.
Smart’s nationwide coverage is backed by PLDT’s fiber optic cable connection which has now reached almost 100,000 kilometers, or more than 4 times than competition.
