Sarah Geronimo & John Lloyd Cruz

The long wait is over! After 4 years,  we’ll get to see again the most successful love-team and Pinoy Movie Characters Laida Magtalas and Miggy Montenegro on the big screen portrayed by no less than the Box Office Royalties Sarah Geronimo and John Lloyd Cruz respectively via ‘It Takes A Man and A Woman’, the third and most likely the last installment of the  Filipino Film Franchise co produced by Star Cinema & Viva Films.

I don’t know how to follow up that opening paragraph because I already said much about these two lead actors in my previous entries. Haha! But seriously, When I got the invite to attend Bloggers Conference, I said Yes right away and cancelled my other events. (Thank you by the way to those who tweeted that they saw me via online streaming).  If it’s Sarah or JLC event, you shouldn’t say No. These are two of the biggest names in the country, The Popstar who is more than enough to fill-in the Big Dome and The Drama Prince effective enough to make every woman cry. Sarah and JLC can sell the movie individually. They are both talented and have active fan bases! When you pair them, you just don’t get blockbuster result, You also experience magic no one can ever describe and deliver.

John Lloyd had a hard time going back to his character as Miggy. It took awhile before he got his character back. Sarah on the other hand also had difficulty being Laida again. She already blocked the Laida in her with the experiences and heartache she went through. Direk Cathy Garcia-Molina who doesn’t believe in workshops wanted their rawness to come out in the film. She has worked with JLC for many times already and finds the actor serious and incredibly good. She hasn’t seen Sarah for the last 4 years and was happy to see her matured not just in acting but also in behaving and thinking.

I know there are still so much more to say about the movie, about Sarah and JLC but I’ll end it here by sharing you this video clip from the Blogcon as well the photos I took. This is the first entry by the way that is flooded with photos. (“,) JLC looks like a Hollywood Star! So Dashing! While Sarah Geronimo looks so young here other than being Pretty & Blooming.

To the writer Carmi Raymundo who was in the point of breaking down writing the story; I’ll give my feedback right after I watch the movie.

Tomorrow, Black Saturday, March 30, This romantic-comedy movie ‘It takes A Man and A Woman’ hits the cinemas. Also stars Guji Lorenzana, Isabelle Daza, Joross Gamboa, Gio Alvarez, Matet de Leon, Rowel Santiago, Irma Adlawan, Al Tantay and Dante Rivero. Let’s all watch and enjoy the movie.

Isabelle de Leon

I never really wanted to go to the Press Launch of Poly East Records’ newest artist, Isabelle de Leon, known as ‘Duday’ in the showbiz world because I thought it was just the same as the other singers getting the chance of having an album and spreading music without really thinking of 'vocality' and musicality. But I’m glad I did. A former child star now turned into a beautiful lady impressed me with powerful and big vocals with heart-warming and lyrically clever songs.

Isabelle de Leon arrives with a debut album laden with elements of folk, rock and pop into her unique signature sound. She wrote 25 songs and 6 of them are now here in “LoveZone”  and is now available in the market released by PolyEast Records for only P200.

Isabelle describes the radio single “1 Week To Move On” as “dealing with the raw emotions around heartbreak” all infused in a melodic pop-rock hook. The very first time I heard the song it gave me LSS right away. Her voice, singing style and lyrics are so magnetic and refreshing. I also got some good feedbacks from friends and other celebrities who have heard the song.

1. Feelingero
2. 1 week to Move On
3. Alice Wonders
4. Pag-Ibig Ko’y Sa ‘Yo
5. Sa Yakap Mo 6. Friend Zone

Her sound is worldly, a fusion of not only her upbringing but also exhibits the diversity of her influences like The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, the Carpenters, Led Zeppelin, Steven Tyler, Robbie Williams, U2, Coldplay, Michael Jackson, Katy Perry, Adele, Enya and Noel Cabangon.

She brings together two things that are essential in an artist; the ability to relate to people’s daily lives and the power to express emotions in new and powerful ways.

Panatang Makabanda marks the return of Rivermaya in the local recording scene.

Iconic and multi-platinum-selling band Rivermaya makes a local recording scene comeback with the much-awaited release of their album Panatang Makabanda, under Universal Records. The album is their first in four years and their first with Universal Records.  Rivermaya is now composed of Mark Escueta, Norby David, Mike Elgar and Ryan Peralta.

The album’s single Pilipinas, Kailan Ka Magigising, penned by founding Rivermaya member Mark Escueta, is reminder to everyone to go against crab mentality, and selfishness, especially now that another election is within the horizon once again.

When asked how the single was chosen among the tracks recorded for the forthcoming Panatang Makabanda album, drummer-turned-guitarist Mark quips, “In the early stages of recording, this song became the initial favorite of the group. It's also a fun song to play live.  Maganda yung message ng kanta and very timely rin since election time nanaman tayo.

When asked to sum up his Rivermaya journey from 1993 to 2013 founding member Mark says: “One of my firm beliefs is that the best part about being a musician is the PROCESS. If you enjoy the process then all your gigs, songs and albums will be celebrations after a great day at the ‘dream office.’ If the process is messed up, many things can go wrong and it can even end up as a painful experience. It has to be good for everybody, not just one or two. Few people know, and I’m sure a lot of my fellow musicians will agree, that one of the most important things that keeps a band going is something that is not so musical in nature. It’s called laughter. A band that laughs together, stays together. Diyan mayaman ang Rivermaya ngayon, tawanan, pagkakaibigan at bagong musika.”

The album launch of Rivermaya’s latest album last Friday, March 22 in Eastwood was a success.

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC CHANNEL adapts Bill O’Reilly’s best-selling book on Lincoln assassination.

National Geographic Channel’s first original scripted drama “Killing Lincoln”, based on the best-selling book by controversial political commentator and TV personality Bill O’Reilly, will hit Philippine television on April 14, 2013. The film portrays the dramatic events that led up to the assassination of US President Abraham Lincoln in 1865 and reveals the mysterious motivations of its perpetrator John Wilkes Booth.

“Killing Lincoln” is a film produced by Ridley and Tony Scott’s Scott Free Productions and written by the Emmy Award-winning Erik Jendresen, writer for the acclaimed TV series “Band of Brothers”, who based his script on the book Killing Lincoln: The Shocking Assassination That Changed America Forever co-written by Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard. “What people never knew, and what both the book and the film capture, is the great tale of action and conspiracy surrounding the manhunt for Booth.” said Scott.

The book was a runaway hit when it was published in 2011, placing No. 2 on The New York Times’ list of best-selling non-fiction and finding a spot among Amazon’s best sellers in November of that year. Millions of readers were captivated by the way O’Reilly and Dugard wove together a compelling narration of the historic circumstances at the close of the American Civil War that led John Wilkes Booth to assassinate President Lincoln as well as the thrilling manhunt that ensued to capture a ruthless killer.

Bill O’Reilly is best known as the outspoken anchor of “The O’Reilly Factor,” an opinion-oriented news show on Fox News Channel that has consistently garnered the highest ratings among US cable TV news channels. Previously, he was a correspondent for ABC News before becoming the anchor of “Inside Edition” from 1989 to 1995. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Marist College in New York and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. O’Reilly is widely considered one of the strongest voices in media today.

The film “Killing Lincoln” is brought to life by a wealth of acting talent, beginning with narration on camera from Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks. Billy Campbell (“The Killing,” “Once and Again”) gives an impressive portrayal of Lincoln, while Jesse Johnson plays John Wilkes Booth in a breakthrough performance. “Killing Lincoln” also stars Geraldine Hughes as Mary Todd Lincoln, the president’s wife, Graham Beckel as Edwin Stanton, Lincoln’s secretary of war during the American Civil War, and Shawn Pyfrom as Private John W. Nichols. The two-hour film is directed by Adrian Moat (“Gettysburg”) and produced by Mark Herzog’s Herzog & Co. (“Gettysburg”).

National Geographic Channel’s viewership records were broken when the film premiered on February 17 in the US and recorded 3.4 million viewers. “Killing Lincoln” was hailed by critics as “fascinating,” “heart-pounding” and “constantly illuminating,” and is sure to captivate Asian audiences when it premieres in the region at 9 PM on April 14, Sunday on National Geographic Channel.

Kanta Pilipinas

Cebuana diva and singing ambassadress of Operation Smile Chadleen Lacdo-o was announced as the grand winner of TV5’s singing reality show ‘Kanta Pilipinas’ last Sunday, March 24, 2013. Performing a Rico Blanco masterpiece ‘Himala’ in an unidentifiable genre, Chad, made it sure she won not by Miracle but by pure talent and true musicality.

I actually had the chance of meeting Chad and the rest of the finalists 2 weeks prior to the Grand Finals during the Rockeoke Event with Kanta Pilipinas host Rico Blanco in Alphonse Bistro. She got my attention right away that night with her powerful vocals so as Fil-Am contestant Timmy Pavino.

Based on their final performances, it was a tough battle amongst Chad, previous Star Magic Artist Thara Jordana and ‘New Born Divas’ member Jeniffer Maravilla who sang so relax with sophistication. My personal evaluation was just as close to Maestro Ryan Cayabyab and Asia’s Nightingale Ms. Lani Misalucha’s final comments and deliberation.

The other talented Kanta Pilipinas finalists were Duo Nicole and Carlo David, the girl-next-door from Davao Dea Formilleza, music wonder from Quezon City Allan Gonzales, singing hunk group 5az1, Las PiƱas’ dynamic singing duo Daniel Grospe and JB Landrito, the “sweet voice of Bicol” Pia Diamante, Ilonggo rakista Ricky Deloviar and Boracay-based singer-songwriter Ferns Tosco.

Chad took home P1M and a recording contract.
Here are the photos I took during the Rockeoke Night.
